Atlantic Division Preview
After winning the Atlantic Division a year ago with a 45-37 regular season mark, Boston drops back in most experts' predictions to an expected 3rd or 4th place finish in 2005-06. While the Celtics don't lose a whole lot talent wise, their competitors for the most apart are viewed to have had some successful offseasons. Furthermore, much of Boston's success last year was due to the seasons turned in by three rookies, and repeating that success could be difficult. Meanwhile, the consensus seems to be that the trio of Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson together for a whole season gives New Jersey a leg up on the rest of the Atlantic. The Nets rallied down the stretch with the three intact, so will come into 2005 with some momentum. Elsewhere, New York retools behind newcomers Larry Brown and Eddy Curry, while Philadelphia hopes to ride a successful union of Webber and Iverson, and finally, Toronto begins what could be a lengthy rebuilding era.

1. NEW JERSEY Probably not the East's third best team, but still a frontrunner in the Atlantic Division. With Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter together for a full season, this could be a fun team to watch.
2. BOSTON An encouraging season last year for Boston, but you wonder how long Pierce can keep this team on his back. The youngsters are good in roles but this is truly a one man show.
3. NEW YORK Marbury finally has the coach to take him under wing. Brown clashed with Iverson, what will this new relationship present. Knicks have the backcourt, now some expertise.
4. PHILADELPHIA The Webber-Iverson duo didn't mesh after the late season trade. What's to say it will now with more time under its belt? With aging stars, this appears a team heading South.
5. TORONTO This team has some good size and potential down low. That's about it. Starting over minus Carter for the first full season, little is expected north of the border this season.
