WAC Preview
In StatFox´s continuing efforts to bring you the best in sports handicapping information, we present a 12-part series previewing the all the Division -1 Conferences and Independents. Each week through the start of the season, we will look at two conferences. This week we've introduced the WAC Conference.
Fresno State
Play On: @Oregon 9/17
With 16 returning starters, Coach Pat Hill’s teams usually starts fast out of the gate. The Bulldogs are 8-1 ATS against Pac-10 teams. With Oregon playing USC at home the following week, a wandering eye to the future gives Fresno State a chance to pull an upset.
Play Against: @Hawaii 10/29
The long sojourn to the islands is a difficult trip for Fresno State. The visitor is 2-11 SU and 3-10 ATS in this heated rivalry.
Boise State
Play On: Nevada 10/29
The Broncos are 5-0 SU and ATS against Nevada over the last five years, with the average score being 51-11. Boise State is the play.
Play Against: @Oregon State 9/10
Last year Boise State broke through and defeated the Beavers 53-34 in a game that was not that close. Anticipate Oregon State to be prepared this time around. The Broncos are 2-8 ATS vs. the Pac-10.
Hawaii
Play On: Fresno State 10/29
The Warriors are 7-3 ATS over the last decade against Fresno State. The Bulldogs 70 points last year were the most scored against Hawaii since 1848. These opposing coaches have little use for one another, should be a WACked –out contest.

NFL Preseason Handicapping: A few key factors to consider
Peyton Manning

The debate on whether or not to bet the NFL preseason rages on for the sports handicapper each and every summer. For simple football fans, the excitement surrounding the beginning of another blessed NFL season is enough to keep their interest peaked. For the serious bettor however, the preseason marks a critical time that can shape the entire football wagering campaign. Those who argue the case against preseason NFL wagering tend to focus on the simple truth that the games don’t count. There’s no simple way to determine how much this fact affects each team motivation. On the other hand, the proponent of preseason wagering would argue that this is the very reason that wagering here presents some great opportunities.

College Football Season Win Totals
We are back for another edition of the weekly StatFox Scuffle, pitting StatFox Steve against StatFox Doug on a variety of sports topics. This week we will be changing gears a bit and focusing on not a single team, but rather a number of teams, this time in College Football. What we will be looking at in particular are the posted regular season win totals at BetCRIS.com. Both of our “panelists” feel they are adequately prepared for the football season, so this discussion will give them a chance to prove so. So, we welcome in StatFox Steve and StatFox Doug. Good morning gentlemen, good to have you back for another scuffle.
StatFox Steve says:
Good morning Doug, are you ready to get it on?
StatFox Doug says:
Steve, always great to hear your lovely voice. Of course I'm ready, bring it on pal!
StatFox Steve says:
I'll let you fire away with a particular team you have your eye on. Scanning the BetCRIS college football win total board, let's analyze one you might find some value on...
StatFox Doug says:
First up is California. I'm not sold on this being a particularly good team this season. Non-conference schedule is a joke. Trips to UCLA, Oregon and a rivalry game with Stanford usually tough. Of course USC at home speaks for itself. Breaking in new QB and just 3 starters back on defense, that 8.5 wins looks difficult.

New England Patriots 2005 StatFox Preview
New England’s recent success has been touched upon at several spots in this magazine already so here we’ll try to just take a closer look at the numbers this team produced last season, and focus on its prospects for repeating in 2005. Quite simply, New England was simply dominant again in 2004, matching the 17-2 won-lost mark of the previous season. In addition, the 13-4-2 ATS mark fell just shy of the ’03 performance. The Patriots improved immensely on offense last year, both in terms of production and balance. The addition of RB Corey Dillon had a great deal to do with that as he gave the unit a dimension it had lacked on the prior two championship teams. In fact, his final numbers of 1,635 yards and 13 TD’s were franchise records. Defensively, they were off a bit on the pace set in 2003, but the final rankings of 3rd in points and 9th in yardage allowed were still very respectable.

The Patriots top assistant coaches were the ones garnering the headlines in the offseason, as OC Charlie Weis left for the college ranks and Notre Dame while DC Romeo Crennel was named Cleveland’s new head coach. The organization...
