The Buffalo Sabres helped extend the Boston Bruins’ lengthy losing streak last month, but the Bruins finally snapped their 10-game skid with a shutout victory in their most recent game. Now, they’ll have a chance to return the favor in Buffalo. The Sabres have lost four straight since beating Boston, and they may concede the Northeast Division lead if they can’t avoid their longest slide of the season on Tuesday night.
Colorado favored to keep St. Louis feeling blue NHL - The Colorado Avalanche began a four-game homestand in impressive fashion, and they hope some more strong play at Pepsi Center can help boost them back to the top of the Northwest Division. Their next opponent, however, has looked much better on the road, and the St. Louis Blues will seek a third straight victory away from home as they visit Denver on Monday night.
Capitals chasing history in snowy Washington NHL - Alex Ovechkin and the NHL-leading Washington Capitals are getting closer to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 17-year-old record for the longest winning streak in league history. Sidney Crosby and the Penguins will try to end the Capitals’ outstanding run Sunday afternoon.
Slumping Sabres look to take wind out of Hurricanes NHL - The Buffalo Sabres are enduring a rough stretch in which they’ve had trouble containing some of the top players in the NHL. They’ll try to avoid losing three straight in regulation for the first time all season Friday night when they face another major threat in Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes. Buffalo (32-16-7, 32-23 SU) is 2-5-1 in its last eight games, and a 5-2 loss at Vancouver on Jan. 25 was the start of a disturbing trend against star players. The Sedin brothers combined for four points in that win for the Canucks.
