MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Anthony Calvillo tossed four touchdown passes and Ben Cahoon set a franchise record as the Montreal Alouettes posted a 38-24 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in their home opener Friday.
Calvillo staked Montreal (2-0) to a 14-0 lead after one quarter with TD passes to Jamel Richardson and Cahoon in the opening period. Cahoon's four-yard score was his 55th career touchdown reception, breaking Peter Dalla Riva's franchise record.
In the second quarter, Calvillo connected with Kerry Watkins and Danny Desriveaux for scores of 18 and three yards, respectively, for a 28-0 bulge. Calvillo completed 34-of-44 passes for 372 yards with one interception, which was returned 79 yards for a touchdown by Jovon Johnson in the third to get Winnipeg within 31-21.
After a nine-yard field goal by Alexis Cerna five minutes into the fourth closed the gap to seven, Avon Cobourne found the end zone from one yard out with 5:05 remaining to seal the victory.
Cobourne gained 89 yards on 17 carries and also caught 10 passes for 96 yards.
Kevin Glenn was 26-of-40 for 313 yards and a touchdown for the Blue Bombers (0-2), who rushed for a mere 12 yards.
