Rangers activate LHP Gabbard
SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Texas Rangers on Thursday activated lefthander Kason Gabbard and infielder Travis Metcalf from the 15-day disabled list.

In corresponding roster moves, the Rangers designated first baseman Ben Broussard for assignment and optioned lefthander A.J. Murray to Class AAA Oklahoma.

Gabbard is starting Thursday night's game against the Seattle Mariners.

The 26-year-old lefthander was placed of the DL on April 22 with back stiffness. Texas' No. 4 starter to open the season, Gabbard is 1-0 with a 2.18 ERA in four outings this season.

Metcalf suffered a torn hamstring in spring training and has yet to make his season debut. He hit .255 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 57 games during his rookie campaign in 2007.

Broussard has been a disappointment as the team's regular first baseman, batting just .159 with three homers and eight RBI in 26 games. Murray notched a win in his lone appearance, allowing three runs - two earned - and six hits in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a spot start at Oakland.
