As the Nashville Predators look to bounce back from their second defeat in two weeks, the status of their injured star defenseman remains uncertain.

With Shea Weber day to day, the Predators will try to get back on track and hand the Philadelphia Flyers a season-high fourth consecutive road loss Saturday night.

After scoring four goals in each of the previous two contests, Nashville (13-11-2) got 33 shots but lost its second in seven games, 3-0 at home against Edmonton on Thursday.

Making matters worse, Weber took a puck to the face late in the second period and did not return. One of the NHL's most complete defensemen, the Predators captain ranks among the league leaders with 26:09 minutes per game. With seven goals, Weber also is the only defenseman to lead his team in that category.

"Obviously, if we lose our captain, it's always hard, and we hope he's OK and hopefully he gets back soon," defenseman Roman Josi said.

The Predators also hope Thursday's result was simply a road block for a team that was also shut out in a 2-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday. They've been held without a goal six times this season and have managed only one in five other games - all losses.

Nashville totaled 13 goals during a three-game winning streak that ended with the loss to the Rangers. The Predators followed that by beating Phoenix and Columbus by a combined 8-2 score before falling to the Oilers.

"We were getting a little bit of a rhythm where we're scoring a lot of goals then we get shut out," defenseman Seth Jones said. "We kind of have to eliminate that from our game. When we're having a good streak we tend to take short cuts here and there and get away from what we do best.

"If we get away from those games like we had (Thursday) we'll be alright."

Forward Nick Spaling scored half of his four goals in the previous two games before facing Edmonton.

Though the Predators allowed more than two goals for the first time in seven games, they've killed all 17 penalties during that span.

Set to open a six-game trip, Philadelphia (11-12-2) is 5 for 14 on the power play in its last four road contests but is in the midst of an 0-2-1 stretch away from home.

Coming off two consecutive road defeats, the Flyers held on for a 2-1 home win over Winnipeg on Friday. Ex-Predator Scott Hartnell and Sean Couturier each had unassisted goals for Philadelphia, which has won a season-high five straight at home.

"It's huge," said Steve Mason, who made 25 saves against the Jets. "Both (previous) games were lackluster, so to come home and get a big win before we go on the road for (12) days is a step in the right direction."

Hartnell, who has recorded five of his eight points this season on the road, has only two assists in five games against the Predators since they traded him to Philadelphia in June 2007.

Nashville lost 4-1 at Philadelphia in the most recent meeting Feb. 2, 2012, but has recorded four goals each during a three-game home winning streak in the series.
