Using Combined PPG stats for NBA Totals - 2/28/2008 Betting on NBA totals is becoming more popular with each passing season, but the approach that many players take in betting them may be inherently flawed. These players simply look at the OVER or UNDER records for the teams involved, and decipher that any favorable trend up to that point will continue. A better way of playing totals is looking at how many total points are scored on average on games involving that team, and comparing that to the posted total.

Last Five Weeks Records Key for Tourney - 2/27/2008 While the best way to get a high seed in the tournament is to lose as few games as possible, teams cannot rest on their laurels if they feel they have reached a win plateau that is good enough to achieve their goals. This is because the selection committee has a “last 12 games” filter that looks at how a team did in basically the last third of the season. NBA Pointspread Variance - 2/20/2008 In an effort to determine which NBA teams are overrated and which are underrated, many novice bettors simply look at each team’s pointspread record and conclude that teams with good ATS records are underrated and teams with bad ATS records are overrated. Guido Carapelucci of LT Profits feels that a better approach to determining which teams are overrated or underrated is to calculate their average variance from the listed pointspread in each game.
