NFL Sunday Night Football Betting Preview - 9/7/2008 It’s a rematch of Super Bowl XLI with the Bears traveling to Indianapolis to take on the Colts in the first Sunday night game of 2008 as well as the first-ever regular-season contest in brand-spanking new Lucas Oil Stadium. But the Colts won’t have Chicago quarterback Rex Grossman to pick on this time.

2. Dodgers in Horrible System on Sunday Baseabll - 8/30/2008 Brandon Webb stumbled in his first attempt to become the majors’ first 20-game winner. Facing the Los Angeles Dodgers might help him reach that coveted mark. The ace right-hander again tries to become the first NL pitcher to win 20 games since 2005 when the first-place Diamondbacks host Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers in the deciding game of their series Sunday night.

3. Seattle maintains stranglehold on NFC West - 8/28/2008 Seattle has ruled the NFC West Division since 2004 and is a solid favorite to continue this domination at least one more year under the direction of head coach Mike Holmgren, who is reportedly leaving after this season. This looks like the Seahawks’ most talented roster since ‘05 Super Bowl season, with Matt Hasselback having his best collection of reliable receivers. Elsewhere. the Rams, 49ers, and Cardinals are all playing catch up but are optimistic heading into their season openers.

4. Sunday Morning Coming Down - A CFB System - 8/27/2008 (Courtesy - Marc Lawrence - Playbook.com) - A favorite theory of Marc Lawrence in college football involves teams playing games during the regular season on Sunday, as opposed to a normal Saturday. The fact of the matter is their body clocks are not quite in synch, and when taking to the road they tend to be a bit more out of their element. As a result they, too, can come down on Sundays. Here is how it works...

5. CFB Independents: Notre Dame looks to rebound - 8/26/2008 After going 19-6 in his first two years atop the helm at Notre Dame, things imploded in South Bend in 2007 for head coach Charlie Weis. His team was downright awful at times, particularly offensively. With a much more experience group taking the field this fall, positive change could come sooner than later. Change is also in the air in Annapolis, where Ken Niumatalolo takes over for Paul Johnson at Navy. Here's a look at each of the teams still playing as Independents in college football's top ranks.

6. NFC's North ready for on-the-field action - 8/24/2008 Only once this decade has a NFC North division champion failed to repeat, as the 2001 Chicago Bears couldn’t keep their string of miracle finishes continuing. The Green Bay Packers will try and continue that trend in 2008 as they look to build up on their 13-3 record of a year ago. However, unless you've been in hibernation like a real bear, you know they'll have to do it without Brett Favre, who's now in New York. One thing is for sure, if the NFL is a quarterback league like many believe, it could be a long year for this division

7. Philadelphia hosts Dodgers on Sunday Night - 8/23/2008 The Philadelphia Phillies are quickly putting last week’s disappointing series at Dodger Stadium behind them. The Phillies look to continue their offensive outburst and win their third straight game over the Los Angeles Dodgers when they resume their four-game series Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia (70-59, -3.7 units) had a two-game lead over the second-place New York Mets in the NL East two weeks ago, but after being swept in a four-game series in Los Angeles (65-64, -9.5 units) Aug. 11-14, the Phillies left Dodger Stadium tied atop the division.

8. WAC top spot expected to change hands again - 8/24/2008 The WAC has crashed the BCS party in back-to-back seasons but a third time in a row might be difficult. Not because there are no teams on that level, but rather because the preseason conference favorite, Fresno State, has once again challenged itself with a difficult non-league schedule. However, should the Bulldogs survive that non-WAC slate unscathed, the BCS berth will likely come down to a season-ending showdown at Boise State. Here is a closer look at the WAC for 2008.

11. Can Bucky unseat Buckeyes for Big Ten supremacy? - 8/22/2008 Ohio State has represented the Big Ten in the BCS Championship Game in back-to-back seasons. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, they've come up short on both occasions. Could the third time be the charm? Nine returning starters on both sides of the ball would seem to indicate that is a possibility. However, first half road games at USC and Wisconsin will have a lot to do with whether or not the Buckeyes reach their 2008 goals. Here's a look at the Big Ten heading into '08.

12. NFC East teams all boast title aspirations - 8/21/2008 Three teams made the playoffs from the NFC East Division in 2007. One of those, the Giants, emerged as world champions. Amazingly, this division has even higher expectations in '08. Dallas may be the favorite at this point, but New York, Washington, and Philadelphia all boast realistic postseason aspirations. The Eagles are a particularly interesting case. Coming off a last place season a year ago, there are some people, including quarterback Donovan McNabb, who believe they are the best team in the NFC...just ask him.

13. Sun Belt football continues to make strides - 8/20/2008 Perhaps it’s hard to fathom, but the Sun Belt Conference is an up and coming league. The SBC had the 11th player taken in the NFL draft this year, a first time win ever over a Big Ten school, an upset win over tradition-rich Alabama, and another bowl victory in the New Orleans Bowl. For the second time in the past few years on national TV, a Big 12 team visited Troy, a team who has just been Division 1-A since 2001, and got blown out of the water. Even with all of that, the best may be yet to come from this league in '08.

14. Raiders, Broncos, Chiefs play catch up in AFC West - 8/17/2008 Questions abound in every camp around the AFC West, of course, in each, they are questions of different degree. In Oakland, can an offseason of lavish payroll spending translate to on the field success? In Denver, is it time to move on from past successes and start anew? For the Chiefs, is this another painful season in the rebuilding process? And finally, in San Diego, are the pieces in place for that elusive Super Bowl run? Make no mistake, the Chargers are a heavy favorite to win the division, however, their goals are much larger.

15. MAC appears improved from top to bottom in '08 - 8/18/2008 The Mid-American Conference sent three teams to bowl games last season but all failed to post a win. Central Michigan, the toast of the MAC, came closest with an exciting shoot-out against Purdue, falling 51-48. The Chippewas won their second straight league title last year and are the favorites once again behind all-conference QB Dan LeFevour. However, the MAC is filled with teams returning a lot of experience in 2008 and thus figures to be improved from top to bottom.

16. Big 12 North Division has finally bridged the gap - 8/16/2008 What a season to remember for the Big 12! Four teams finished ranked in the Top 10 in both major polls in 2007. The closest conference with such stellar representation was the SEC with two teams in both. It probably has not been as long as it seems, but the Big 12 North finally took the majority of headlines away from the Big 12 South. In a matter of total wins, the North improved by 19 wins in 2007 over 2006 while the South actually worsened by two wins. Missouri and Kansas led the South surge, and the Tigers could be even better in '08, bring back many key weapons from the fifth best offense in the nation

17. BYU: 16 straight Mountain West wins going into '08 - 8/14/2008 Last year was a difficult year for prognosticators regarding the Mountain West Conference as TCU was the consensus to win the conference with BYU and Utah divided as second place finishers. However, TCU concluded the season as the league disappointment chalking up a fifth-place finish and mundane 4-4 league record. In '08, picking an eventual winner seems almost too easy, as BYU returns 10 of 11 starters on offense, five on defense, and boasts a 16-game league winning streak.

18. Road to AFC South title still runs through Indy - 8/13/2008 Not unlike Paul Revere yelling the night of April 18, 1775, the Indianapolis Colts can hear and see the rest of the AFC South is coming. Last season, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans earned bids for the postseason party and Houston finished .500 for the first time. Though Revere could only warn the locals that the British were coming, Indianapolis is still well fortified to prevent an invasion of the top spot in the division, which they have held since 2003.

19. Where have all the powers gone? - 8/11/2008 >(Courtesy - Marc Lawrence, Playbook.com) - It’s strange how life comes at you fast, in full circle, without even realizing it. Such is the case for several former college football national powers. Read on as Marc Lawrence takes a look at five teams who have recently fallen from grace while assessing their prospects for the 2008 season ahead and their chances of returning to super power status.

20. New coach, same title aspirations for West Virginia - 8/12/2008 West Virginia held up the honor of the Big East in 2007 finishing in the Top Ten in the country, but overall the conference took a big step backwards with previous year’s powerhouses Rutgers and Louisville failing to live up to their preseason Top 25 projections. For '08, the Mountaineers have the one new Big East head coach, long-time assistant Bill Stewart, taking over for Rich Rodriguez. While expectations remain high behind star QB Patrick White, many holes on defense have to be filled for WVU to remain in the top ten this year.

21. FFChamps feature: So you Have the Third Pick… - 8/6/2008 (Courtesy - Court E. Mann, FantasyFootballChamps.com) There is something of a stinkhole at the No. 6 spot in Fantasy Football Drafts this season, where the top tier of running backs runs out. The same cannot be said for the No. 3 spot. It's a foregone conclusion that LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson will be off the board. With the third pick, you then have to select…

22. USC aims for 7th straight Pac 10 title - 8/10/2008 Last season the Pac 10 continued to present a strong argument on being the best conference in the country by winning four of six bowl games and tallying a 25-12 non-conference record as well. Additionally, four Pac 10 teams finished the season in the Top 25 of major polls, including of course, USC, who won its sixth straight league title. Still, it didn’t feel like the Trojans lived up to expectations. Well, for '08, those expectations are again lofty, and there seems little reason to believe that they aren't headed for #7 in a row. Here's a closer look at the Pac 10.

23. Three straight different AFC North winners - 8/9/2008 After a thrilling 10-6 season that left the Browns one-game away from a playoff berth last winter, they will head into the '08 season hoping to become the fourth straight different team to capture the AFC North title. Standing in Cleveland's way; All three other teams, as Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Baltimore all have their eyes on that perch. Typically, inter-divisional games decide who takes it and last year was no different as the Steelers went 5-1 in that scenario. Who gets it done this season? Read on as we preview the AFC North Division.

24. ACC in '08: Clemson a trendy BCS title contender - 8/8/2008 Clemson hasn't captured an ACC title in 17 years. Still, coming off a 9-4 season and returning a star-studded offensive backfield, head coach Tommy Bowden's Tigers are the popular pick to represent the conference in the BCS in '08. Are these lofty expectations more a function of Clemson's superiority or the league's overall slippage? With once powerful programs like Florida State, Miami, and NC State having reached new lows, this conference needs a renaissance of a season. Read on as we preview the ACC.

25. Will defense show its face in Conference USA in '08? - 8/5/2008 Six of the 12 Conference USA teams went to bowl games in 2007, and offense was the undoubtedly the leaguewide theme. Only UAB failed to score more than 24 PPG last season and C-USA runner-up Tulsa led the nation in total offense and became the first team in NCAA history to have a 5,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and three 1,000-yard receivers in a single season. Oh, by the way, there were also a pair of 2,000-yard rushers. Still, if this league is to gain any respect or bowl success, defenses are going to have to step up in '08.
