1. Boston Celtics Will Not Win NBA Title - 5/13/2008
I admit it; I picked the Boston Celtics to win the NBA Championship before the playoffs began. Consider me one of those Democrats whose like a super-delegate, I have the right to throw my support towards whoever I want. I was fooled by the regular season record, believing Boston ACTUALLY had a bench. I was naive enough to think Doc Rivers was a better than average coach and didn't follow one of the fundamentals of professional basketball; the NBA Playoffs are completely different than the regular season.

2. Odd Pitching Matchup has Reds Favored - 5/12/2008
Few predicted that the Florida Marlins would be among the majors’ best teams and even less would have believed 33-year old journeyman Mark Hendrickson would be the team’s top winner after two seasons posting 10-23 record with two other teams. Fewer still thought Cincinnati Reds right-hander Edinson Volquez would emerge as one of baseball’s top starters. Six weeks into the season, however, it’s hard to deny the Hendrickson or Volquez their spots among the elite.

3. Philly Favored on the Road - 5/10/2008
The Philadelphia Soul will look to overcome their first loss of the season at Georgia on Monday night, against the Force who has largely had a disappointing season. Philadelphia (9-1, 7-3 ATS) had a horrible scheduling situation, playing division rival Dallas, who was also unbeaten at the time, defeating them and having to turn around four days later on the road and lost to Cleveland.

4. MLB Series Betting – L.A. Angels at Tampa Bay - 5/9/2008
Normally by now, the Tampa Bay Rays are starting dissent to the bottom of the AL East. During the course of the season, they would have a few hot streaks and beat the Yankees or Boston a couple of times at home to make SportsCenter, but by and large Tampa Bay stinkin’ up the joint is about as dependable as a summer thunderstorm on the West Coast of Florida. Something is different this year about Tampa Bay besides the change of nickname and a splashy new logo.

5. Arena Football –Week 11 - 5/7/2008
This week, a number of Arena Football League teams will attempt to build on winning momentum from a week ago, heading towards playoff chase. New York has won four straight and has barely picked up any ground on Philadelphia and Dallas in the Eastern Division. The Desperadoes can regain sole possession of first place for a couple of days, before the Soul plays on Monday, when they host Grand Rapids. Cleveland will go after another home dog upset taking on Orlando and first place is on the line in the desert, when San Jose takes on Arizona.

6. Bumbling Baltimore in Nearly Perfect Spot - 5/7/2008
After starting the season playing solid baseball, the Baltimore Orioles have found the road to continued success unkind. In particular, the road that has them leaving Baltimore to encounter other big league baseball teams. The Orioles are in the midst of a 10-day, 10-game road trip and thus far have managed one win in their first five tries. On the season, Baltimore is 6-11 (-3.4 units) in the visiting uniforms and have managed to score 3.5 runs per games in this role.

7. Betting NHL Conference Finals - 5/7/2008
The Final Four for the Stanley Cup is set and Sesame Street couldn’t be happier with a pair of “P’s” meeting in the Eastern Conference, while in the West, a “D” is certain to be playing for the Cup. Detroit is still the favorite to take home Lord Stanley’s trophy at 3-2 odds, with Pittsburgh the second choice at 9-5. Both Dallas and Philadelphia are playing great hockey and are 7-2 to walk away winners as lower seeds. Here is betting preview of each series, starting in Thursday’s first matchup in the Western Conference.

8. Boston Big Favorite, no longer invincible - 5/5/2008
Who would have thought the Boston Celtics would have been the team to hold up the proceeding, making this the last conference semi-final to commence in the NBA playoffs? The dynamics of a Cleveland and Celtics series are exhilarating, though for the most part flawed, as was shown in each team’s first round matchups. Boston’s a huge betting favorite to win the series, but should they be?

9. Tampa Bay looks to build momentum as Underdog - 5/3/2008
Tampa Bay off their best win of the season, a road win at rival Orlando 48-41 as six-point underdogs, return home to face the best team in the American Conference, in the Chicago Rush. With a quirk in the Arena Football schedule, these teams have not done battle since the 2004 campaign.

10. Atlanta vs Boston – Home Team Series - 5/3/2008
The Boston Celtics played hard all season for home-court advantage in the playoffs. They just didn't expect to need it this soon. The Celtics are back in Boston and hoping to finish off the pesky Atlanta Hawks on Sunday in Game 7. It's the last first-round series still going - a bit of a shock considering that the Celtics were the best team in the NBA during the regular season, and the Hawks the worst of the 16 to reach the postseason. "Clearly, we'd have loved to have won in four games. We'd have loved to have won it in five, (or) six," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said after a walkthrough at the team's practice facility on Saturday.

11. Betting first two Series of Round Two - 5/3/2008
The Conference semi-finals begin with a pair of high quality 2 vs 3 matchups, certain to bring a smile to every hoops fan and professional basketball bettor. While upsets are exciting, invariably in the NBA playoffs, it makes for a less than entertaining seven game series in the next round. Each series has one terrific individual head to head matchup which should be reason enough for any hoop head to want to watch.

12. Arena Football –Week 10 - 5/2/2008
After last week’s titanic matchup of Dallas and Philadelphia, Week 10 of the Arena Football schedule slows down a stride, with most of the power teams taking on weaker opposition and the middle of the road clubs facing one another. This leads us to preview the teams struggling to make the playoffs or those who are seeking some respect for a dismal campaign. Just like the Bud Light radio commercials, here’s to you AFL teams stumbling to be even modestly successful.

13. Closing time Friday Night in NBA? - 5/1/2008
Most everyone between the ages of 10-50 remembers the annoying song by Semisonic, released a decade ago called “Closing Time”. For six different NBA teams on Friday night, this song’s title holds special significance, as their season is riding on the outcome of tonight’s action. Professional basketball bettors are left with bountiful choices to sort out differing realities about the three Game six’s on the wagering board.

14. NHL Visitors seeking Sweeps to Advance - 4/30/2008
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings are both poised to sweep conference semi-final opponents and to do so they will have to accomplish this feat in the visitor’s sweaters. Pittsburgh hasn’t always played well in spite of building commanding 3-0 lead over the New York Rangers; however their powerful power play has bailed them out of tough situations.

15. Underdog Atlanta Uprising - 4/28/2008
If a new burgeoning business wants to crack into the fast food hamburger field, you don’t set your sights on beating Hungry Howie’s on the other side of town, you focus on the Golden Arches. The chances of ever beating Ray Kroc’s creation are slim at best, but who thought people would eat fast food 50 years ago. For the Atlanta Hawks, the similarities are present. After drifting into the NBA abyss with countless bad draft choices, ill-suited coaching choices and enough bad front office mistakes you would have thought an airline executive was running the team, Atlanta made the playoffs for the first time in nine years.

16. Historic Arena Football Matchup - 4/26/2008
This will be Arena Football’s version of Indianapolis and New England this season. Never before has two teams met without a loss this late in the AFL season. It is being billed as “Broad Street Brawl”, as Philadelphia (8-0, 6-2 ATS) hosts Dallas (7-0, 5-2 ATS).

17. NBA Playoff Betting – Dog Day Afternoon - 4/26/2008
On Sunday afternoon on ABC, two very different underdogs will be on national television attempting to over come what could only be described as shameful performances. Cleveland after carving up Washington by 30 in Game two, was made to disappear by the Wizards, who more than returned the favor on home court winning by 36, 108-72. San Antonio will be an underdog in name only, holding a commanding 3-0 lead over Phoenix. The Spurs could wrap it up and earn rest with road dog win against the setting Suns.

18. Wagering on Survival Saturday in NBA - 4/25/2008
On the first day of a full weekend of NBA action, all four games have survival written all over them. Both Denver and Atlanta are down 0-2 and desperately need a victory to get back in the series, or they will be exactly like the setting Suns. For Houston and Toronto, they each gave unique performance to bring them back into their respective series, the question for them is can they bring that same emotion against a more motivated opponent in Game Four?

19. Arena Football – Week 9 - 4/24/2008
The biggest story of this week in Arena Football is the Monday matchup of division rivals and unbeaten Dallas and Philadelphia. However, before that contest is played, quality clubs like Orlando, New Orleans and Chicago all believe when the time comes, they will be able to lineup and go toe-to-toe with the powerhouses of the AFL. Each of the three teams is favored in a different situation, providing Arena bettors interesting opportunities.

20. MLB Series Betting – Arizona at San Diego - 4/24/2008
Most experts thought coming into the season, the NL West would be one of the toughest in baseball, with four legitimate teams capable of winning crown in 2008. As the saying goes, “You can never win a pennant in April, but you could sure lose one.” The thought was San Diego (9-14, -7.7 units) had enough pitching and if they could get some hitting, no reason to believe they wouldn’t be a contender all year.

21. Winning Big Money on NFL Draft - 4/25/2008
All right, maybe not BIG money, but at least got your attention to read on and who knows, maybe you can cash in. Imagine talking to your friends on Monday and telling them you picked up a few hundred dollars or even more betting on the NFL Draft! My assignment was to study all the aspects of where players are going. In order to make you money with my selections, I’ve channeled the spirits of Mel Kiper, Todd McShay and other draft gurus to assure I can be correct.

22. If I Were the Coach of NBA Playoff team ……. - 4/24/2008
Three more NBA Playoff games are on the agenda for Friday night, each have a circumstance for the home team. Just like the head coach of these NBA teams, professional basketball bettors have to decide the best course of action to take knowing what they have seen or what they believe. Here is a look at what each home team coach has to do to either get back in the series or take the lead in Game Three.

23. Baseball Trendy Talk – April 24, 2008 - 4/23/2008
Some people shy away from trends because they feel for everyone that is relevant, the other side has one just as powerful. While that type of thinking works for some, trends are often descriptive information, relating to how a team or individual has played in a given situation. The important part is to understand what the angle means to the game at hand, based on recent history.

24. Betting NHL Western Conference Semis - 4/24/2008
Both the top seeds in the West have shown the ability to be less stable than the patients on HBO’s “In Treatment”. Both Detroit and San Jose can be the best team in the league and play dumb hockey the next contest. The Red Wings are still the top pick to skate away as champs at 2-1, with Sharks right behind at 5-2. Dallas is at 7-1 odds, however if they knock off San Jose, they might well go all the way. Colorado is the long shot in the West at 15-1.

25. Betting NHL Eastern Conference Semis - 4/22/2008
Seeding aside, these were the best four teams in the East at the end of the season, thus this should lead to fabulous, exciting hockey. We correctly nailed all four winners in the first round in this conference and will try to duplicate perfect record here in the East. Both Pittsburgh and Montreal are 9-2 to win the Cup, with Rangers 7-1 and Philadelphia a distant 15-1.
