1. Grand Rapids tricky foe in Arena Football semis - 7/5/2008 Before throwing Grand Rapids under the bus as a fluky club which was fortunate to make the postseason, don’t lose sight of the fact a certain Chicago team caught fire late and galloped to an Arena Bowl championship after a mediocre regular season, just a couple of seasons ago. The Rampage are like Brett Favre rumor, gathering momentum with four wins in a row, including impressive dismantling of Arizona on the road, in low scoring 48-41 contest as two-point underdogs.

2. AFL Conference Semis Saturday Wagering Preview - 7/5/2008 Last week was truly a wild card round, as all four underdogs covered the spread and three of them won outright to advance to this week’s Conference semi-finals. The two upsets that occurred, being the most pronounced were Saturday’s visitors Colorado and New York. Based on recent level of play, both were given a chance to cover the pointspread, but win outright on the road, that was about as likely as Christie Brinkley’s husband cheating on her for an 18-year girl. We know how this is turned out. (FREE FoxSheet on one of Saturday’s matchups)

5. Betting on Baseball Urban Legend - 7/2/2008 One of the many great aspects of wagering is the amount of choices available to those who choose to partake in this endeavor. While most prefer to play side action, many are more comfortable studying totals, devaluing risk by being able to pay reduced juice or find favorable numbers, betting against public perception of adjusted figures. One of the urban legends still floating around in betting baseball totals is to Play Under when the oddsmakers set the numbers low and or when two aces of any major league teams are facing one another.

7. Baseball Betting Look Ahead - 7/1/2008 With Baltimore being the last team to complete 81 games or half the season, we have information to take into account how all 30 major league teams have played and try to surmise how they might play in the future based on these results. Noted baseball guru Bill James and Baseball Prospectus are considered two of the most respected names that helped usher baseball into this modern era of information. Among the tools are runs scored and runs allowed, providing a method to determine if any baseball team is overachieving or possibly not playing up to the level of skill they have shown for different reasons.

8. Seattle Handcuffed by Superior Betting System - 7/1/2008 After sweeping San Diego and winning five of six on the road, Seattle returned home possibly feeling good about them selves for the first time all season. The Mariners have more flaws than Brittany Spears without make-up and are not built to change on the run what they are, a crummy major league baseball team.

9. NL Worst (West) Strictly Play Against - 6/30/2008 It was the late king of the one-liners, Henny Youngman who had the joke, “Take my wife – Please”. This would be an apt description of the National League West, where only Arizona is over .500 on the season. Just a half a season removed from having two teams competing for the National League crown last October, this division is about as popular as an SUV gulping 12 miles a gallon. Let’s take a look back to figure this mess out.

10. StatFox Doug’s Baseball Musings - 6/30/2008 Mercifully, the blood-letting has stopped, the National League can retreat back to its quaint little grouping and compete amongst itself with the knowledge that one team will emerge and be a World Series representative. Thank goodness baseball has history or like in the other major sports, fans would be clamoring to redo the playoff system based on what has again taken place.

13. WNBA Top Weekend Systems and Trends - 6/27/2008 Detroit, Connecticut and Los Angeles continue to be the best teams in the WNBA; however Minnesota and San Antonio are the best bets with solid 8-4 against the spread records. Defending league champion’s Phoenix are coming back from putrid start, but because of horrible defense, are 2-9 ATS. If WNBA Totals are of interest, look no further than Seattle, who is 11-3 Under. Check out Friday’s Free FoxSheet on Atlanta and Connecticut.

14. Betting Arena Football Losers a Challenge - 6/27/2008 If some of you thought the NBA and NHL playoffs were diluted and had too many inferior teams, get a load of Colorado and Utah. Colorado had to win its last two games to finish 6-10 (5-11 ATS) just to make the playoffs, while Utah was (no joke) 0-9 to start the season, the laughingstock of Arena Football. To each of their credits, they hung tough and though not imposing by any stretch of a vivid imagination, five other teams weren’t good enough to make the postseason.

15. MLB Series Betting – L.A. Angels at L.A. Dodgers - 6/27/2008 The I-5 Freeway Series has the traffic heading north to Dodger Stadium this weekend for the final series of interleague play. The Angels continue the final lap of nine-game road trip, after successfully navigating the East with 5-1 record in Philadelphia and Washington. This Anaheim bunch is an odd sort, with the best record in the American League at 48-31, yet has only outscored the opposition by 18 runs on the season, which places them between the Yankees and Cleveland. They only manufacture 4.3 runs per game with starting outfield one could expect do that just by them selves most nights.

16. Canadien Football Season Opens - 6/26/2008 Another football season begins north of the border with the CFL season commencing its opening weekend. Their will be changes in what has been an offensive brand of football for years. The biggest change is in the philosophy of how defenses attack quarterbacks. The influence of the NFL has matriculated north and the older quarterbacks that used to sit in the pocket and throw the pigskin around the field are drying up. Defenses are now pressuring offenses like never before, changing the needs of the clubs. More and more teams are going towards having two quarterbacks, giving the head coach options.

17. Arena Football Playoff Betting starts Friday - 6/26/2008 The AFL Playoffs have arrived and a pair of Eastern Division rivals will start the festivities. Dallas (12-4, 7-9 ATS) doesn’t come in playing its best football with 3-3 record the last six games, covering the spread just twice. Maybe the change of pace of playing in first round will help the Desperadoes, who have had a bye the last two years winning the division and were beaten in first playoff contest.

18. Baseball’s Bettors Good, Bad and Ugly - 6/26/2008 As the baseball season approaches the halfway point, here is a look at who are the good and bad teams to wager on and some so ugly, they make onions cry. Take a gander at what numbers are important and what has been happening to these major league clubs.

19. Texas tries to buck Betting System - 6/26/2008 The Texas Rangers have the worst pitching staff in baseball, in terms of runs allowed per game, with a robust 5.6 per outing being scored. Of the 79 games the Rangers have played this season, 25 times (31.6 percent) they have surrendered seven our more runs. That’s not to say Texas pitchers have been completely incompetent, from May 7-9, they had three consecutive shutouts which seemed as unlikely as Coldplay having songs with lead singer Chris Martin (Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow) actually enjoying himself. 20. Conflicting Baseball Trends for Wednesday Night - 6/25/2008 Trends of all sorts lend themselves to understanding teams and particular situations. Sometimes these angles overlap, causing one to hesitate in making a decision on a particular game. Tonight in major league baseball a number of games offer baseball bettors interesting decisions to be made. (Check out Free Foxsheet on Orioles and Cubs contest.)

21. Having Fun Betting NBA Draft - 6/25/2008 With the first pick in the NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls take ____________? There are only two choices for GM John Paxson to make, Derrick Rose of Memphis or Michael Beasley. Whatever decision he makes, it will explain the confidence he has in his own job with the Bulls. Purely from ability and ready to go talent, Beasley is the choice and would provide new coach Vinny Del Negro immediate help. Rose on the other hand would play one of the most important positions on the floor. As talented as Rose is, nobody has mentioned him being as good as Chris Paul a couple of seasons ago and would not come into the NBA as top-10 point guard from the get-go.

22. StatFox Doug's Musings - 6/24/2008 I went to my third ever Arena Football game last week, seeing Colorado and Arizona play. Previously I’d seen the Milwaukee Mustangs (1994- 2001) on the 50-yard carpet, but couldn’t begin to guess what year, not that it matters. My previous memories were from an entertainment perspective about a five, on a scale of 1-10. Sort of like a TV show that your wife or girlfriend is watching, not bad, just not anything you would invest time on regularly, which is about what I felt leaving the arena.

23. Playing Against MLB teams on last road game - 6/24/2008 Going through the StatFox Forum a while back, noticed someone had mentioned road teams playing the last game of a road trip were losing at a steady rate. Decided to make a note of this and do the research to back up this individual’s claim. In theory, the basic point would be road teams might be anxious to get home after a road trip and might not play their best in final encounter, much to the dismay of starting pitcher. If that assumption is somewhat accurate, certain parameters had to established, to determine what a road trip actually is.

24. MLB Interleague Revenge on Tap - 6/24/2008 In the early part of the season, the National League was busting its buttons about how their league was gaining on the American League, with higher scoring teams, more young talent and of course its snobbish appeal with no designated hitter. It was very easy to drink the Kool-aid back in mid-May that this was all true, however as we head into the last six days of interleague play, a familiar tune is playing again. Thus far the senior circuit is 68-99, hardly the kind of numbers associated with success. At least two teams, Florida and Houston will have a chance for revenge at home against in-state rivals starting tonight. (Review Free Foxsheet on Texas/Houston matchup.)

25. Bet these starting pitchers to go Over the number - 6/23/2008 For most casual baseball fans, the game is too slow, not enough action and more runs needed to be scored, similar to a slow-pitch softball game. While major league baseball has added the thrilling aspect of players and fans to be impaled by exploding maple bats, most prefer to see runs being scored either going to the ballpark or on television. Many lukewarm bettors of baseball tend to bet Over the total, since that is their preferred interest in the sport as a whole. Since pitching is such an important aspect of baseball, here is a current roster of the best pitchers to wager on for games exceeding the total.
