76. First Place Tampa Bay hits the road as Favorites - 7/24/2008 The Tampa Bay Rays are embarking on a vast number of road games over the next several weeks, which might explain what their real chances will be of winning the AL East and making the postseason for the first time in team history. Tampa Bay, to this point of the year is spectacular 40-16 at home, gathering +19.3 units of profit. No team in baseball has played more home games than the Rays 56, which means the schedule has to balance up in home and road contests. Starting tonight, Tampa Bay will play 17 of next 23 away from Tropicana Field. (Free Foxsheet for this AL encounter)

77. Wagering on Hot MLB Team Trends - 7/23/2008 Baseball is a game of streaks, being played out over a schedule of 162 games, and sports bettors are often at the mercy of these fads. A major league team can have a run of eight games playing over the total, facing the fifth starter from the opposing team, and be shut down offensively like a garage door. Other times, little moments occur that set off wild sparks. The Los Angeles Dodgers held the lead for a total of two innings of the 29 they played against Arizona over the past weekend and it was enough to take two of three against the D-Backs. The euphoria carried over in scoring 19 runs the next game at Colorado, followed by; you guessed it, one run in game two of the series. Here is a look at current streaks from various MLB clubs.

78. Hump Day Games of Importance in NL - 7/23/2008 Philadelphia’s been stumbling around a bit and has the New York Mets and Florida breathing down their necks. They would like to believe they helped take care of a portion of this conundrum last night with remarkable six-run ninth inning to stun the Mets 8-6, after having started the top of the frame with a 5-2 deficit. This gave the Phillies sole possession of first place in the NL East, as they prepare for Game 2 of the series. (Free Foxsheet for this divisional battle)

79. Brett Favre Thoughts and other Betting Ideas - 7/22/2008 This whole Brett Favre situation has really taken a turn for the worse it seems. What is most troubling is both sides are essentially talking about same elements that have occurred, with each interrupting the events in their own way. Both sides have valid points and I have no idea how this will be solved. Those reporting in the media seem to be on board with Rodgers deserves chance since Favre retired, hard to disagree with that sentiment. Brett backers can’t get enough of this long time warrior and would support him if he threw a 100 interceptions (receivers just ran wrong routes, wink).

80. WNBA Top Tuesday Systems - 7/21/2008 Candace Parker and Lisa Leslie will try to put some spark back into the Los Angeles Sparks, when they face the best team in the WNBA, Detroit. Parker took home a couple of ESPY’s last week; however her team needs her to lead them to a win, to break two-game losing streak and being losers of four of five. (Free Foxsheet for this hook-up) Four other contests are on the WNBA docket for today, with two encounters a matinee.

81. Looking OVER Boston and Seattle Matchup - 7/22/2008 Right now the safest best in the world marketplace is the number of Starbucks coffee houses that will be open at the end of the year compared to when 2008 started. If you read the news, Under would be the play, which seems to mirror what the Seattle Mariners have done this season. High expectations, high returns were supposed to being part of the Mariners portfolio. Instead, Seattle has been among the biggest disappointments in all of baseball at 38-61 (-24.4 units), the worst record in the American League. The collection of Mariners players seemingly grew old in the off-season and Seattle ownership let go of management and players alike. (Free Foxsheet availble for this contest)

82. Washington Redskins 2008 Preview - 7/21/2008 With the first exhibition game less than two weeks away, NFL talk is coming fast and furious. Washington and Indianapolis will play in the Hall-of-Fame game on Sunday, August 3. This week we’ll take a look at the Redskins chances for the upcoming season and see what the best bet for season total wins is. Joe Gibbs was never able to re-create his success in return visit to Washington, other than a couple of playoff appearances. Gibbs had given it his all, but the demands were more than he wanted to continue to deal with and new head coach Jim Zorn was hired to build on last year’s 9-7 campaign.

83. Just another Manic Monday Betting Baseball - 7/21/2008 After getting the first weekend after the All-Star break comfortably into the books, major league baseball returns to the weekday portion of the schedule, with three big series, all with teams battling for playoff contention. While most managers and players have been conditioned to elicit responses as “It’s only July, can’t get too excited yet” or “It’s important, but the playoff push really starts in August”, these games are precious because they are against teams fighting for the same thing, the playoffs. Evidently TV pitchman Tony May has yet to see the switch playoff contenders turn on August 1, otherwise he would be hawking that as well. Here is a look how three “sort of important” series which will start around baseball this Monday. (Free Foxsheet on one of them)

84. Betting Baseball Statistic from Different View - 7/20/2008 The term “slugging percentage” has been around baseball for long time. For those that either don’t remember or just don’t know, how a slugging percentage is derived is taking the total bases of a hitter and divide by the number of at bats, discounting walks. What this statistic is designed to do is gauge the performance of a hitter based on all-around ability to hit for power, just not home runs. In 2001, Barry Bonds broke Babe Ruth’s record in this category with a .863 slugging percentage, besting Ruth’s mark of .847, set in 1920. What happens when you turn it around and look at these same numbers from pitching perspective?

85. WNBA Top Weekend Systems and Trends - 7/18/2008 Seattle has been streaking winning six straight and covering each contest. They will have mettle tested with four-game road trip. Connecticut has gone the other way, losing four in a row, failing to cover the spread each time and has only covered one contest in last eight. The Sun will be slight road favorites at Chicago Friday night, which happen to be our Free FoxSheet. Expansion Atlanta after starting 0-17 (6-11 ATS), has won three of five, covering oddsmakers number on four occasions.

87. MLB Series Betting – L.A. Dodgers at Arizona - 7/18/2008 Sole possession of first place will be at stake when the Dodgers head to the sun-baked desert to take Arizona. Fortunately for both teams, major league baseball has set up system where no matter how bad any division is the team with the least awful record still goes to the postseason. Though both the Dodgers (46-49, -9.3 units) and the D-Backs (47-48, -10.4 units) are below .500, at least they have one positive, both have scored a few more runs than they’ve allowed. A Free Foxsheet is available for Friday night opener.

88. Canadien Football League Week 4 - 7/16/2008 Only one unbeaten team remains in Canadien Football, as Saskatchewan continues to ride high and will host once-beaten Montreal. Calgary and Hamilton will start Week 4 with the Stampeders a decided favorite. Winning and Toronto each have turnaround games seeking revenge against opponents they lost to last week. Though only three weeks into the season, every team that has won the game outright has covered the spread in all 12 contests played. FREE Foxsheet available for Week 4.

91. British Open Betting Preview - 7/15/2008 It was a decade ago, a golfing prodigy named Tiger Woods, made what was his first significant challenge at winning a major championship at the Royal Birksdale Golf Club, in the northwest sector of England. One aspect about Woods being near the top of the leaderboard was he was not the biggest story of the final day in 1998, in which friend in the making, Mark O’Meara picked up a second major title at this venue. The biggest cheers of that Open were reserved for a 17-year old English amateur named Justin Rose. He finished tied for fourth place by holing out from about 80-yards on the last hole, bringing cheers that still resonate in the ears of those that were on the 72nd hole that day.

92. Understanding Baseball’s Magic Number 4 - 7/17/2008 The major league baseball All-Star break was a welcome relief for many, a time to take a few days off to stretch the mind, offer a few more simple pleasures and generally take it easy. For others, the void is an unwelcome interruption from the daily grind of churning out numbers. Having studying numbers with regularity at least since April, if not dating back to November when the NBA season started, this chasm is a break that throws off the kismet of where a sports bettor expects to end up.

93. 79th All-Star Game from Historic Yankee Stadium - 7/14/2008 Think of the names that have passed through these gates, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Reggie Jackson, and more recently Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Roger Clemons. This promises to be a special night, with so much baseball lore and history. Originally opened in 1923, Yankee Stadium has played host to three prior All-Star Games in 1939, 1960 and 1977, after completing major renovation.

94. Betting Home Run Derby - 7/14/2008 Information coming out of New York has tonight’s Home Run Derby tickets going for anywhere from $100 -$650. Besides the absurdity of such prices, it is possible this year’s All-Star events will be the last time Yankee Stadium will be showcased for a major sporting event, with this current Yankees team needing a huge second half, presently in seventh position record wise in the American League. To juice up the proceeding, Alex Rodriguez would have been the perfect candidate to represent the pinstripes.

95. WNBA Top Weekend Systems and Trends - 7/11/2008 The Western Conference is really heating up with the top four teams within three games of one another. Seattle has made the strongest move, winning five in a row, covering the spread in each contest. In the East, Detroit and Connecticut appear to be the class, with New York and Indiana hanging around .500. The oddsmakers have been very sharp this season, with the ATS records all within a few games of break even either way, except for being able to take advantage of Phoenix and its lack of defense. Check out Friday’s Free FoxSheet on Washington and Detroit.

96. MLB Series Betting – L.A. Angels at Oakland - 7/11/2008 The Oakland Athletics might be the most peculiar team in all of major league baseball. Once again in the midst of a division chase, they end up trading one of the most prominent commodities, Rich Harden (plus others) to the Chicago Cubs and receive a bevy of mid-to-above average players. Oakland has come to epitomize the “small” in small market teams, continually developing young talent and when their time is about to come for a larger contract based on success, off they go in repetitive cycle, traded for younger players to start the process all over again. (Check out FREE Foxsheet for series opener)

98. Betting Arena Football Conference Finals - 7/11/2008 As always seems to be the case in Arena Football, the Conference championships have teams which boggle the brain, putting it together in unseen ways. Cleveland’s a head-scratcher one year removed from Las Vegas and faces the best team in the league in Philadelphia. Maybe it shouldn’t be such a shock Grand Rapids is in the American Conference title game, seeing the relative weakness of the conference overall. They are arguably the hottest team left and will face the defending Arena Bowl champions, San Jose. For those keeping track, underdogs are 7-1 ATS in the postseason, with four outright victories. (FREE Foxsheet for National Conference final)

99. Canadien Football Weekend Betting Opportunities - 7/10/2008 With the slower wagering season upon us, time to take a look at another possible fun way to bet, with the Canadien Football League. The rest of the week 3 CFL schedule has teams in uncomfortable circumstances. Winnipeg and British Columbia have yet to post a win in 2008 and one of these two teams will likely start an unforeseen 0-3. Saskatchewan has started 2-0, but was stung by the injury bug and faces an improved Hamilton squad, anxious to end a long losing streak to the Rough Riders. (Free FoxSheet on B.C. at Winnipeg matchup.)

100. Canadien Football League Week 3 Openers - 7/10/2008 Week 3 of the CFL season opens tonight, with all four teams involved in surprises last week. Montreal pulled off second consecutive upset win to start 2-0 and they will host Calgary who looked like they had the win over Edmonton until the last minute. The Eskimos escape job gave them first win of the young season and they are home to Toronto, who was shamed on home turf.
