The Greenbrier Classic hasn’t featured many household names atop the leaderboard, but it has provided excitement in the form of playoffs the past two years. This 2013 season has been a wild year of first-time winners, and The Old White TPC has produced a first-time PGA Tour winner the past two years with Scott Stallings in 2011 and Ted Potter Jr. last year. Here are the best bets for the week… Webb Simpson (10/1): While he’s yet to recapture his white-hot form from 2011, it’s been a quietly solid year for Simpson. He has four top-10 finishes, including a T5 at the Travelers two weeks ago, his last start. Considering his back-to-back top-10's at The Old White TPC, he’s poised to break back into the winner’s circle this week. Phil Mickelson (10/1): Lefty can’t be ignored as the premiere name in this year’s field, especially considering he’s finished top-3 in three of his past four starts. But The Old White TPC hasn’t been kind to Mickelson, who’s missed the cut in each of his two starts here. Pat Perez (80/1): He’s two starts removed from a T8 at the Memorial, and Perez has been solid on this track. Perez went T9 here in 2010, and after taking 2011 off, he returned to break 70 on the tournament’s final three days en route to a T27 last year. Jimmy Walker (40/1): Could Walker be the next player to break through for win No. 1 at The Old White TPC? He’s cooled off since a solid start to the year, missing two straight cuts and shooting a final-round 80 for a 73rd-place finish at The Memorial before that. But he finished T4 in each of the first two editions of the Greenbrier Classic.
