EAST CAROLINA PIRATES

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 10-3 (6-2 in Conference USA)
ATS Record: 7-5-1 (58%)
Over/Under: 8-5
Points Scored: 40.2 PPG (T-8th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 24.8 PPG (49th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 5
Defense: Starters Returning: 3
Star QB Shane Carden (4,139 pass yds, 71% completions, 33 TD, 10 INT) leads ECU in its first AAC season and will continue to provide mass targets for WR Justin Hardy (114 rec, 1,284 yds, 8 TD) in effort to post another 40.2 PPG like last year. Five-foot-8 RB Breon Allen (311 rush yds) will be the main back. The defense lost a ton, and will ask a lot out of DL Chrishon Rose (6 TFL), ILB Zeek Bigger (77 tackles, 5 PD) and CB Detric Allen (40 tackles).

CINCINNATI BEARCATS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 9-4 (6-2 in American)
ATS Record: 6-7 (46%)
Over/Under: 7-5-1
Points Scored: 32.1 PPG (47th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 21.0 PPG (14th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 7
Defense: Starters Returning: 6
Notre Dame transfer QB Gunner Kiel is expected to run the Bearcats offense with plenty of talent at receiver, especially WR Shaq Washington (78 rec, 783 yds). Cincinnati can also rush the football effectively with RBs Hosey Williams (655 rush yds, 5.7 YPC), Ralph David Abernathy IV (518 rush yds, 5 TD) or Tion Green (412 rush yds, 7 TD). New DC Hank Hughes will keep the 4-3 defense intact that is ignited by the pass-rushing of DE Silverberry Mouhon (9.5 sacks) and relies on LB Nick Temple (79 tackles, 5.5 sacks).

HOUSTON COUGARS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 8-5 (5-3 in American)
ATS Record: 10-3 (77%)
Over/Under: 6-7
Points Scored: 31.2 PPG (38th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 21.8 PPG (20th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 8
Defense: Starters Returning: 9
New OC Travis Bush will keep the Cougars up-tempo with the trio of QB John O’Korn (7.0 YPA, 28 TD, 10 INT) and WRs Deontay Greenberry (1,202 rec yds, 11 TD) and Daniel Spencer (768 rec yds, 6 TD). Returning RBs Ryan Jackson and Kenneth Farrow combined for 1,175 rushing yards and 12 TD last year. The defense led FBS in takeaways (43) and will continue to ride LB Derrick Mathews (116 tackles, 7 sacks) and S Trevon Stewart (109 tackles, 4 INT).

CENTRAL FLORIDA GOLDEN KNIGHTS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 12-1 (8-0 in American)
ATS Record: 8-5 (62%)
Over/Under: 5-8
Points Scored: 34.6 PPG (30th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 21.3 PPG (17th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 6
Defense: Starters Returning: 8
UCF has four viable candidates to replace Blake Bortles under center, and that winner has great receivers to work with in WRs Rannell Hall (886 rec yds), Breshad Perriman (811 rec yds) and J.J. Worton (7 rec TD). RB Will Stanback will replace Storm Johnson. The defense remains nearly intact with star CB Jacoby Glenn (15 PD) and LB Terrance Plummer (110 tackles).

SMU MUSTANGS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 5-7 (4-4 in American)
ATS Record: 5-6-1 (46%)
Over/Under: 7-5
Points Scored: 26.8 PPG (76th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 33.3 PPG (T-100th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 7
Defense: Starters Returning: 7
The Mustangs have a new playbook with QB Neal Burcham (5.1 YPA) replacing Garrett Gilbert. SMU’s top two wideouts are also gone, so WR Der’rikk Thompson (459 rec yds) and LB-turned-RB Kevin Pope (5.2 YPC) are the top skill-position players. DE Beau Barnes (5 sacks, 13 TFL) and LB Stephon Sanders (86 tackles, 13.5 TFL) are the only two standouts on defense.

SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 2-10 (2-6 in American)
ATS Record: 5-7 (42%)
Over/Under: 3-9
Points Scored: 13.8 PPG (122nd in FBS)
Points Allowed: 28.6 PPG (T-74th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 9
Defense: Starters Returning: 5
The Bulls’ offense lacks star power with underwhelming QB Mike White (6.2 YPA, 3 TD, 9 INT) and no clear-cut top rusher. WR Andre Davis (735 rec yds) and TE Sean Price (21 rec) are quality pass-catchers though. USF boasts an opportunistic defense (25 TO) under DC Chuck Bresnahan with LB Reshard Cliett (7 TFL) and DBs Nate Godwin (46 tackles) and Hassan Childs (3 INT).

MEMPHIS TIGERS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 3-9 (1-7 in American)
ATS Record: 6-6 (50%)
Over/Under: 4-8
Points Scored: 19.5 PPG (111th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 24.6 PPG (T-44th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 8
Defense: Starters Returning: 8
The Tigers are looking to quicken their pace this year, and QB Paxton Lynch (5.9 YPA, 9 TD, 10 INT) handled the offense well in the spring. He gets his top four wideouts back, with WR Joe Craig (338 rec yds) as the top target. Sixth-year senior RB Brandon Hayes (860 rush yds) is a tough runner. DE Martin Ifedi (10.5 sacks) and LB Charles Harris (73 tackles) lead a virtually intact front seven, and CB Bobby McCain (6 INT, 2 TD) is a true playmaker.

CONNECTICUT HUSKIES

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 3-9 (3-5 in American)
ATS Record: 5-7 (42%)
Over/Under: 7-5
Points Scored: 20.6 PPG (107th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 30.3 PPG (86th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 8
Defense: Starters Returning: 6
New Head Coach: Bob Diaco
QB Casey Cochran (7.4 YPA, 11 TD, 4 INT) should earn the starting job after winning the final three games of 2013. WR Geremy Davis (1,085 rec yds) headlines a strong receiving corps, but the dismissal of RB Lyle McCombs stings, as does losing four O-Line starters. Linebacker is the biggest weakness, but the D-Line isn’t great either. The secondary shines with CB Byron Jones (3 INT), S Obi Melifonwu (70 tackles) and S Andrew Adams (2 INT).

TEMPLE OWLS

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 2-10 (1-7 in American)
ATS Record: 8-4 (67%)
Over/Under: 5-7
Points Scored: 24.9 PPG (89th in FBS)
Points Allowed: 29.8 PPG (83rd in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 6
Defense: Starters Returning: 7
The Owls love sophomore QB P.J. Walker (8.3 YPA, 20 TD, 8 INT), but he is not blessed with accomplished receivers. More will be expected from RBs Kenny Harper (854 total yds, 11 TD) and Zaire Williams (661 total yards, 5.3 YPC). The defensive front seven is very green, but LB Tyler Matakevich (FBS-high 106 solo tackles) is excellent. The secondary had only 2 INT last year.

TULSA GOLDEN HURRICANE

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 3-9 (2-6 in Conference USA)
ATS Record: 3-9 (25%)
Over/Under: 7-5
Points Scored: 21.1 PPG (103rd in FBS)
Points Allowed: 33.9 PPG (102nd in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 7
Defense: Starters Returning: 9
QB Dane Evans (4.6 YPA, 4 TD, 10 INT) leads a weak offense that welcomes back WR Keyarris Garrett (9 rec TD in 2012) from a leg injury. The ground game will miss Trey Watts. Tulsa’s defense has many great returnees, such as SS Michael Mudoh (133 tackles) and DE Derrick Alexander (6.5 sacks).

TULANE GREEN WAVE

2013 Statistics:
SU Record: 7-6 (5-3 in Conference USA)
ATS Record: 9-4 (69%)
Over/Under: 5-8
Points Scored: 24.8 PPG (91st in FBS)
Points Allowed: 21.4 PPG (18th in FBS)
Odds to Win 2015 BCS National Championship: 100/1 (Field)

2014 Preview:
Offense: Starters Returning: 7
Defense: Starters Returning: 6
Freshman QB Tanner Lee has the edge on QB Nick Montana (5.8 YPA, 14 TD, 10 INT), but WR Justyn Shackleford (419 rec yds) is a weak No. 1 option. Frosh RB Sherman Badie tries to replace Orleans Darkwa. CB Lorenzo Doss (7 INT, 2 TD) and S Sam Scofield (104 tackles) lead an underrated defense.
