NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
GEICO 500

Sunday, October 19 – 2:00 p.m. EDT
Talladega Superspeedway – Talladega, AL

Talladega takes center stage for the NASCAR circuit on Sunday afternoon for the GEICO 500. This tri-oval superspeedway is 2.66 miles long with 33-degree banking on the turns, 16.5 degrees on the frontstretch (4,300 feet) and 2-degree banking on the 4,000-foot backstretch. This is arguably the most unpredictable track on the circuit, with 11 different winners in the past 14 races, leading to favorable odds for all the drivers. Denny Hamlin earned his first Talladega win on May 4.

Drivers to Watch

Jimmie Johnson (12/1) - We always pounce on Johnson whenever he gets double-digit odds, especially at a track where he's had so much success with two wins and six top-5's. In the past 10 starts at Talladega, Johnson has four top-2 starts and four top-7 finishes. It also helps Johnson's odds that he's desperate for a win to stay in the Chase. Put your largest wager on the No. 48 car for Sunday.

Clint Bowyer (25/1) - Based on his recent success at Talladega, Bowyer represents the best value on the board here at 25-to-1, which is a nice jump from the 15-to-1 odds he commanded in last year's fall race in Alabama. In his past nine starts at this track, he has two victories and four other top-7 showings, which includes a third-place finish five months ago. Although Bowyer hasn't been great recently with six double-digit finishes in the past eight starts, he still has a dozen top-10 showings this season.

Matt Kenseth (12/1) - The restrictor plate king has eight superspeedway victories to his credit, including a win at Talladega in 2012. That was one of five top-5's that he has earned in Alabama. Although Kenseth has still not won a race this season, he does have 11 top-5's, and you can never count out the Joe Gibbs Racing team when it comes to restrictor plate races. At 12-to-1, Kenseth is worthy of a small wager.

David Ragan (50/1) - Talladega represents the only time that money should be wagered on this longshot. Before an unfortunate crash in the May race at this track in a race he actually led, Ragan had knocked out four straight top-7 finishes at Talladega. After placing 7th and 4th in Alabama in 2012, he won the 2013 May race and finished 6th last fall. His other career NASCAR win also came on a restrictor-plate track at Daytona in 2011, making Ragan worthy of a one-unit bet for Sunday.
