MIAMI HEAT (5-3)

at ATLANTA HAWKS (4-3)

Tip-off: Friday, 7:35 p.m. ET
Line: Atlanta -2.5, Total: 194

The Heat hit the road on Friday night to take on a red-hot Hawks team.

Miami had won two straight games before an embarrassing 81-75 home loss against the 8.5-point underdog Pacers on Wednesday night. The Heat are now 2-3 (SU and ATS) since starting the season with three straight wins (SU and ATS), and have now gone Under the total in five straight contests. Meanwhile, Atlanta won its third consecutive game on Wednesday with a narrow 100-97 home victory over the 7-point underdog Jazz. The Hawks failed to cover in that game, but they have covered in three of their past five contests. Last season, both of these teams beat one another SU when playing at home, but Atlanta was 3-1 ATS in the four meetings. Over the past three seasons, Miami is 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS in this series, but is just 2-2 (SU and ATS) when playing at Philips Arena. Some interesting betting trends include that the Hawks are 0-9 ATS in home games off a home no-cover where the team won straight up as a favorite over the past three years. They are also 7-18 ATS in home games after two or more consecutive wins in that time. Miami, meanwhile, is 101-135 ATS in November games since 1996. PF Udonis Haslem (undisclosed) will likely play for Miami on Friday, but SF Danny Granger (hamstring) and C Justin Hamilton (hip) are both questionable. PF Mike Scott (back) is probable for the Hawks in this game, but SF DeMarre Carroll (groin) is doubtful and PF Adreian Payne (foot) is out.

The Heat are coming off of a miserable loss to the Pacers in which they could not get it going offensively. C Chris Bosh (21.8 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 3.0 APG) had his worst game of the season, finishing with just nine points on 3-of-13 FG. Bosh should be able to turn things around against a Hawks defense that isn’t nearly as good as Indiana’s. SF Luol Deng (14.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 1.4 SPG) could be in for a big night against Atlanta. There were some harsh words said about Deng by members of the Hawks’ front office and that could serve as extra motivation for him. Deng had just five points and seven rebounds in the loss to Indiana, but he had 30 points, five rebounds and four assists in a road win at Dallas just three nights earlier. SG Dwyane Wade (19.8 PPG, 6.4 APG, 3.5 RPG) was the only player who brought anything against the Pacers. Wade finished with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes of play. He’s looked very refreshed after losing weight this offseason and should be able to get himself going offensively against a Hawks team that does not have any shooting guards on the roster capable of defending him. Wade has averaged 22.8 PPG (50% FG), 6.0 APG, 4.8 RPG and 1.6 SPG in 32 career meetings with Atlanta.

Atlanta has now won three straight games and continues to excel with solid defense and crisp ball movement. The Hawks are averaging 23.9 APG (4th in NBA) this season while allowing just 99.3 PPG (17th in NBA). SF Kyle Korver (16.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 2.7 APG) is off to an extremely hot start this season, shooting 55.3% from three-point range. He has scored 17 points in back-to-back games and netted 27 points in the game before. PF Paul Millsap (16.6 PPG, 8.6 RPG) had been in something of a slump earlier in the year, but he had his best game of the season against his former team on Wednesday with 30 points and 17 rebounds in 40 minutes. He should have no problem dominating the glass against a small Miami frontcourt. PG Jeff Teague (16.3 PPG, 7.9 APG, 1.6 SPG) had 20 points and eight assists against the Jazz last game and has an excellent matchup against this Heat team. Miami is weakest at the point guard position, so Teague should be able to put up some solid numbers in this one. C Al Horford (13.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 2.6 APG) is still knocking off the rust of missing the second half of last season with a torn pectoral. He’ll need to be on his game against Miami, as he’ll find himself covering Chris Bosh the most.
