UFC 180: Lamas vs. Bermudez

Saturday, Nov. 15 – 10:30 p.m. ET
Mexico City, Mexico

Ricardo Lamas (14-3) vs. Dennis Bermudez (15-3)

Featherweight bout
Line: Bermudez -195, Lamas +160

Two of the most explosive fighters in the UFC battle on Saturday night as Ricardo Lamas and Dennis Bermudez go toe-to-toe at UFC 180 in Mexico City.

Lamas bounced back from a tough unanimous decision loss to Jose Aldo by defeating Hacran Dias at UFC Fight Night on June 28. In that match, he showed terrific cardio in securing a unanimous decision victory. To be able to bounce back from the loss to Aldo showed that he is the type of fighter that puts the past behind him and prepares for the next match. He is an explosive athlete who is learning how to become a smarter fighter in the octagon. He has a tendency to get wild with his punches, and that is something he will not be able to do Saturday against Bermudez. The 27-year-old from New York is coming off an impressive victory against Clay Guida on July 26 at UFC on FOX 12. He showed impressive will and patience to pick his spot, and capitalized with a rear-naked choke in the second round. Like Lamas, he is very athletic with the ability to do everything in the octagon. Both of these fighters could make a claim to a title fight with a victory, which should make for a tremendous fight. Lamas has been great as of late, but the physicality of BERMUDEZ will be too much.

"The Menace" Bermudez has 15 victories in his career, with seven of them coming by decision. He also has four wins by both knockout and submission, proving he is a versatile fighter. He will have a huge advantage when it comes to landing significant strikes at 4.65 per minute compared to 2.27 for Lamas. Not only does he land a lot more, he is also more accurate with his punches (43% for Bermudez, 39% for Lamas. Not only does he have an advantage in striking, he also is much better on the ground. He has a takedown average of 4.64, compared to 1.77 for Lamas, while also being more accurate when taking his opponents to the mat (45% for Bermudez, 31% for Lamas). If he is able to use his strength to his advantage, he will be in great shape to get the win. However, if this fight goes into the final round, the quick and well-conditioned Lamas could get the victory.

"The Bully" Lamas has 14 wins thus far, with seven coming by way of decision. He also has four wins by knockout and three by submission. This is a tough matchup for Lamas, as Bermudez is so dominant in so many different areas. His biggest advantage will be his quickness. He will have to pick his spots in this fight, not allowing Bermudez to slow the pace of this fight and get the victory. If he is able to start off fast and pick his spots, he will have a great chance to get the win.
