DUKE BLUE DEVILS (9-3)
vs. ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS (9-3)

Sun Bowl
Sun Bowl Stadium - El Paso, TX
Kickoff: Saturday, 2:00 p.m. ET
Line: Arizona State -7.5, Total: 65.5

Two schools in search of a 10th win will tangle in El Paso, TX when Duke and Arizona State play in the Sun Bowl.

Despite having successful seasons, Duke and Arizona State each enter Saturday's contest with two losses in their past three games. Both offenses can put up points, but prefer different methods. The Blue Devils are the better running team (183.3 rushing YPG) while the Sun Devils throw much more often (276.3 passing YPG). Despite being benched in his most recent game, Taylor Kelly will get the start under center instead of Mike Bercovici. ASU has an opportunistic defense with 14 takeaways in the past four games, but has allowed more than 30 points in each of these contests as well. Duke has held three of its past four opponents to fewer than 150 rushing yards, and is 12-3 ATS after a game of committing fewer than two turnovers in the past two seasons. Arizona State is 18-11 ATS when favored in the past three seasons. The Blue Devils have a couple of questionable players with shoulder injuries to RB Eamonn Vain-Callahan and CB Alonzo Saxton II, while Arizona State just had two players leave the program in RB Deantre Lewis and TE Brendan Landman. Fortunately for ASU, top WR Jaelen Strong (undisclosed) has been upgraded to probable.

Duke has been able to produce 32.5 PPG (44th in nation) thanks to a balanced offensive attack with 183.3 rushing YPG (46th in FBS) and 214.9 passing YPG (81st in FBS). Senior QB Anthony Boone (2,507 pass yards, 5.9 YPA, 17 TD, 7 INT) is coming off a season-high 275 passing yards in a 41-21 home rout of Wake Forest on Nov. 29, but he has also played well in his past two road games with 5 TD throws and only one pick. His first look is usually to 5-foot-9 senior WR Jamison Crowder (78 rec, 942 yards, 6 TD) who has caught at least six passes in six straight games, with 99+ yards in three of those contests. RB Shaun Wilson (590 rush yards, 8.0 YPC, 5 TD) leads the team in rushing yards, but hasn't run for 50 yards in a game since Sept. 20. Junior RB Shaquille Powell (501 rush yards, 4.8 YPC, 2 TD) is the main ball carrier with 11+ rushing attempts in four of the past six games, but he hasn't scored a touchdown since Sept. 27, going six straight games without finding the end zone. Defensively, Duke allows only 20.6 PPG (21st in nation), despite allowing 400 total YPG (5.2 YPP) broken down between 204 passing YPG allowed (6.4 YPA) and 196 rushing YPG allowed (4.5 YPC).

Arizona State has scored 37.0 PPG (19th in nation) with a strong reliance on the passing game (276.3 PPG, 30th in FBS) rather than the rushing attack (170.2 YPG, 57th in nation). Although QB Taylor Kelly (1,874 pass yards, 7.7 YPA, 20 TD, 5 INT) will start on Saturday, backup QB Mike Bercovici (1,445 pass yards, 7.8 YPA, 12 TD, 4 INT) might also get in the game if Kelly struggles. Kelly has not eclipsed 270 passing yards in a game this year and has taken 24 sacks in his past six contests. This offense has been carried by RB D.J. Foster (1,002 rush yards, 5.5 YPC, 9 TD), who is also an excellent receiver out of the backfield with 59 catches for 646 yards and 3 TD. Foster began the season with three straight games of 147+ rushing yards, but has just one 100-yard game in the final nine contests. He was held below 3.0 yards per carry in four of those games, including the most recent one on Nov. 28 when his team lost 42-35 at rival Arizona. Junior WR Jaelen Strong (75 rec, 1,062 yards, 10 TD) has been consistently excellent all season with 55+ receiving yards in all but one game. He has also scored touchdowns in eight of his 11 contests. ASU's defense allows 27.7 PPG (78th in nation), and has been awful through the air, where it surrenders 262 YPG on 7.5 YPA. The run-stop unit is much more respectable, limiting opponents to 157 rushing YPG on 4.0 YPC.
