CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (18-12)

at ATLANTA HAWKS (22-8)

Tip-off: Tuesday, 7:35 p.m. ET
Line: Atlanta -3, Total: 202

The Cavaliers head south on Tuesday looking to get revenge for a 29-point loss to the Hawks in their last meeting.

Cleveland is also coming off a humiliating 103-80 loss to the Pistons as a 7.5-point home favorite, marking its second loss in the past three games. The Cavaliers have now failed to cover in eight of their past 11 games. The Hawks, meanwhile, beat the Bucks 90-85 as 5-point favorites in Milwaukee on Saturday. Atlanta is red-hot right now, winning 15 of its past 17 games. They’ve covered in 12 of those contests and are now 18-11-1 ATS on the season (62%, 3rd in NBA). The Hawks have gotten the better of the Cavs in this series recently, winning four of the past five meetings SU. Over the past three seasons, Atlanta is 6-3 SU, but just 4-5 ATS versus the Cavs. This includes a 3-1 SU (2-2 ATS) record at home in that timeframe. Over the past three seasons, Cleveland is 8-2 ATS off a home loss against a division rival. The Hawks are 10-3 ATS after having won five or six of their previous seven games ATS this season. They are also, however, just 7-27 ATS when playing with two days rest over the past three years. PG Kyrie Irving (knee) and SF Shawn Marion (ankle) are both probable for the Cavaliers in this one, while Atlanta has no injuries of concern.

Can the Cavaliers bounce back with a strong victory on Tuesday? For the answer, connect to The Platinum Sheet for all the Expert picks throughout the entire 2014-15 season. While StatFox Forecaster has a strong 57% ATS record (81-62-1) in featured games this season, the five experts have been profitable recently with a collective 53% ATS mark (57-51-2) in NBA Best Bets since Nov. 29. StatFox Gary is 59% ATS (13-9) during this timeframe to give him a 56% ATS (25-20) in NBA Best Bets this season, while StatFox Brian is 61% ATS (14-9) in Best Bets since Nov. 29.

Cleveland is struggling recently, and could really use a win over the Hawks for a much-needed confidence boost. SF LeBron James (25.2 PPG, 7.6 APG, 5.3 RPG) shot the ball terribly in a loss to the Pistons on Sunday, scoring just 17 points on 5-of-19 FG (2-of-6 threes) in 32 minutes. He did, however, add 10 rebounds and seven assists in the game. James had 21 points in 29 minutes the last time these teams played, and will have to do better than that this time around. PG Kyrie Irving (20.2 PPG, 5.2 APG, 1.5 SPG) was out against the Pistons last game, but is expected to play against Atlanta. He should provide a spark for this team with his ability to score the basketball and make plays when attacking the rim. PF Kevin Love (17.1 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 2.4 APG) is averaging 21.0 PPG and 8.5 RPG over the past two contests for Cleveland. Love has struggled to find any sort of consistency all season, but he has been huge the past two games (21.0 PPG, 8.5 RPG) and will need to continue to produce, even with Irving back in the lineup. Love's defense will need to improve as well, and he will definitely need to be ready to play hard on that end against Atlanta.

The Hawks have been playing extremely well lately and a lot of that has to do with C Al Horford (14.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 1.5 BPG) regaining his form before tearing his pectoral last season. Over the past five games, Horford is averaging 16.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 3.4 APG and 1.6 BPG. He is a threat to score from inside and out, and he is also a tremendous passer for a big man. Horford should really give the Cavs problems, as they do not have anybody on the roster that can protect the rim. PF Paul Millsap (16.5 PPG, 8.1 RPG) is another guy that could really hurt Cleveland in the paint. He’s playing really well lately, averaging 18.6 PPG and 9.3 RPG over the past three contests, and his physical style of play should really give Kevin Love issues on both ends of the court. PG Jeff Teague (16.6 PPG, 6.9 APG, 1.6 SPG) will need to be extremely aggressive in this game. Kyrie Irving will not be 100 percent after hurting his knee last week, and Teague will need to use that to his advantage by going to the basket constantly. If the Hawks’ top guys are playing effectively, Kyle Korver (12.8 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 3.1 APG) should be free to spot up behind the three-point line and knock down open shots.
