SAN ANTONIO SPURS (5-2)

at PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS (4-4)

Tip-off: Wednesday, 10:30 p.m. ET
Line: San Antonio -7.5, Total: 199

The Spurs try to add to their modest win streak on Wednesday night when they visit the slumping Trail Blazers.

San Antonio (5-2 ATS) has bounced back strong from a buzzer-beater loss at Washington on Nov. 4 with two straight lopsided victories over Charlotte (114-94) and Sacramento (106-88). Meanwhile, Portland (4-4 ATS) has allowed 114.0 PPG during its two-game losing skid to a pair of underdogs in Detroit and Denver. The Spurs lost last season's series with the Blazers, 3-1, and were pounded in both of their trips to Oregon with defeats of 108-95 and 111-95. However, All-Star PF LaMarcus Aldridge played for Portland in that series, and now he's returning to Moda Center wearing a San Antonio jersey. Most betting trends think the Spurs will continue their win streak with a sizable victory, as they are 13-3 ATS on the road versus foul-prone teams (2+ PF per game more than opp.) in the past three seasons and 18-7 ATS as a road favorite of 6.5 to 12 points in this same timeframe. But the Blazers are a perfect 11-0 ATS at home where the total is between 195 and 199.5 points over the past two seasons, and are 24-10 ATS in November games in the past three years. With Portland SG Gerald Henderson (hip) upgraded to probable, there are no significant injuries to note for either team.

StatFox Zach got the season off to a flying start with a 5-0 Best Bets record in the first week, and StatFox Gary had a strong second week with a 4-1 Best Bets record.

San Antonio is scoring a pedestrian 102.3 PPG this season despite strong 48.8% FG clip and 77.9% FT rate. The club is making only 33.3% of its threes, but has 25.4 APG to only 15.7 TOPG. PF LaMarcus Aldridge (15.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG) is the story of this game going up against his former team, but his scoring average is way down from his career mark of 19.3 PPG. He has committed four fouls in each of his past three contests where he has netted only 14.0 PPG with eight free-throw attempts. C Tim Duncan is averaging nearly a double-double this year with 10.9 PPG and 9.6 RPG, and he dominated the Blazers last season with 21.0 PPG (58% FG), 10.0 RPG, 3.7 APG, 2.0 BPG and 1.3 SPG in three meetings. The team's top scorer, SF Kawhi Leonard (22.1 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 2.0 SPG), also had a big series versus Portland with 18.3 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 4.0 APG and 2.3 SPG, while SG Danny Green, who has been terrible this year with 6.4 PPG on 30% FG, pitched in 18.8 PPG on 60% threes (15-of-25). But not everybody played well against the Blazers, as the veteran backcourt of PG Tony Parker (11.3 PPG, 3.3 APG) and SG Manu Ginobili (10.6 PPG, 3.9 APG) both shot poorly with Parker making 36% FG and Ginobili shooting at a dismal 29% FG clip. San Antonio's defense has really thrived this season in allowing only 91.7 PPG on 42% FG and 31% threes. In the three of the past four road games, the host clubs have shot 40.5% or worse from the floor.

Portland's offense has been potent this season with 103.7 PPG on 46.7% FG and 36.9% threes. The club really shot lights out last week with 53% FG on Wednesday, 51% FG on Thursday and 54% FG on Sunday, but was held to a meager 39.6% FG clip in Monday's loss to Denver. PG Damian Lillard (27.5 PPG, 47% FG, 43% threes, 7.3 APG, 1.1 SPG) provides the most scoring punch for this team, and he had an outstanding series versus the Spurs last season with 26.8 PPG (51% FG), 5.5 RPG, 5.5 APG and 1.3 SPG. His backcourt mate SG C.J. McCollum (20.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.1 APG) has picked up some of the offense left behind by Aldridge and has scored at least 15 points in all eight games this year. SF Al-Farouq Aminu (12.0 PPG on 44% FG) leads the team on the glass with 8.1 RPG, but is coming off a horrible performance in Denver where he made just 5-of-16 shots with only four rebounds over 34 minutes of action. C Mason Plumlee (10.1 PPG, 63% FG, 7.8 RPG, 1.1 SPG) gets most of his buckets from close to the hoop and has been more active on the boards recently with 10.0 RPG in his past four contests. He'll need to be just as aggressive going up against Tim Duncan on Wednesday. Portland's defense has been pretty effective this season in allowing 102.7 PPG on 44.2% FG and 31.2% threes.
