CHICAGO CUBS (59-39)

at CHI WHITE SOX (49-50)

First pitch: Tuesday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Line: Chicago Cubs -165, Chicago White Sox +155, Total: 9.0

The White Sox will be looking to win their fourth straight game when they host the Cubs on Tuesday.

The Cubs have lost two of their past three games and will be hoping to get back on track with a win over the White Sox in this one. The first game of this series took place on Monday and the Sox won that one 5-4. The Cubs did not take advantage of their base runners in that one, as they left 11 guys on base in the game. It’s important that the team capitalizes on its opportunities in this one. Over the past three seasons, these teams have split victories when the White Sox have been the home team. The Sox are, however, 7-4 overall versus the Cubs in that span. On the mound in this one will be RHP Kyle Hendricks (9-6, 2.27 ERA, 96 K) for the Cubs and RHP James Shields (4-12, 4.99 ERA, 81 K) for the White Sox. Hendricks is 17-3 against the money line when the total is 8.5 to 10 over the past two seasons. The Cubs are, however, just 4-19 against the money line in road games after two straight games where they committed no errors this season.

Kyle Hendricks has been one of the most impressive pitchers in the league this season and he enters this game on a real hot streak for the Cubs. Hendricks has not allowed a single earned run in his past 19.2 innings of work and he’ll be hoping to keep that streak going against the White Sox. One thing that has been a huge factor in Hendricks’ excellent pitching is his lack of homers allowed. Hendricks has given up one or less home runs in each of his 19 appearances this season. He’ll be hoping to do that once again on Tuesday. Offensively, the player to watch for the Cubs in this game is 1B Anthony Rizzo (.287, 24 HR, 76 RBI). Rizzo has been on a tear recently, racking up three homers and 13 RBI over the past nine games. He also happens to be 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI against Shields in his career. The team will be counting on him to drive in a few runs in this game and he should be able to do it.

The White Sox are hot lately and they’ll be sending James Shields to the mound on Tuesday. Shields has had his struggles with the Sox, but he has been pitching extremely well recently. The righty has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his past two starts and the White Sox will be extremely happy with another performance like that against the Cubs. Offensively, two guys to watch out for in this game are 3B Todd Frazier (.211, 29 HR, 67 RBI) and OF Adam Eaton (.277, 6 HR, 35 RBI). Frazier has been on a bit of a hot streak lately, as he has now homered in four of the past eight games for Chicago. He also happens to have two doubles and two RBI against Hendricks in his career. Eaton, meanwhile, is 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against Hendricks in his career. He’ll be hoping to come through with a few hits in this one as well, but it won’t be easy against the Cubs’ red-hot starter.
