LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS (53-32)

at UTAH JAZZ (52-33)

Tip-off: Sunday, 9:00 p.m. ET
Line: Utah -1, Total: 197.5

The Jazz will be looking to even up the series when they host the Clippers in Game 4 on Sunday.

The Clippers trailed for almost the entirety of Game 3, but they outscored the Jazz 29-22 in the fourth quarter and eventually came away with the 111-106 win. Los Angeles can now bury the Jazz with a victory in Utah on Sunday, as it’ll be extremely tough for Utah to win three games in a row. Two of those contests would be at Staples Center. The Clippers will, however, be without PF Blake Griffin (Toe) for the remainder of the postseason. Griffin is one of the best offensive players in the entire league, so it’s not going to be easy for Los Angeles to get over his absence. Utah, meanwhile, is waiting to hear about the status of C Rudy Gobert (Knee) in this one. Gobert got injured in the first minute of Game 1 and has not played for the team since. If he can come back soon then the Jazz should be able to turn this series around.

The Clippers are up 2-1 in this series, but they have to be feeling pretty horribly about the Griffin news. Los Angeles has felt that it is ready to contend for a title for years now, but the team has just had horrible luck. Still, the team needs to focus on this game. PG Chris Paul (26.7 PPG, 10.3 APG, 2.7 SPG in playoffs) is one guy that will be locked in for sure on Sunday. He has been ridiculous in the postseason, and he is coming off of a 34-point, 10-assists performance in Game 3. Paul is far too quick and also too clever for the Jazz guards to be able to contain him. Look for him to be even more aggressive as a scorer the remainder of the series. C DeAndre Jordan (15.0 PPG, 14.3 RPG, 1.7 BPG) has also been very good in this series. Gobert’s absence has certainly helped that, but Jordan is just playing the game that’s in front of him. He has been a beast on the boards, and he is doing a great job of protecting the rim. He’ll need to keep that up the rest of the series.

If the Jazz are going to win Game 4 and get back in this series then the team will need more from its role players. SF Gordon Hayward (26.3 PPG, 8.0 RPG in playoffs), PG George Hill (18.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.0 APG in playoffs), and SF Joe Johnson (16.3 PPG in playoffs) did almost everything for Utah offensively in Game 3. Hayward had 40 points, Hill had 26, and Johnson had 15 in that one. That means that the rest of the team combined to score just 25 points, and that is absolutely unacceptable. While Hayward is the top option on this team, he can’t be counted on to do everything in this series. Utah will need guys like PF Derrick Favors (10.0 PPG, 6.3 RPG in playoffs), SF Joe Ingles (8.7 PPG in playoffs), and SG Rodney Hood (8.0 PPG in playoffs) to make their marks on Sunday. Favors is especially somebody that needs to step it up. With Gobert hurt, he can’t afford to keep getting dominated by DeAndre Jordan.
