The NBA season is creeping up and now is a great time to take a look at some of the better picks to win the title: Golden State Warriors (5-to-11) - It’s obviously lame to suggest taking the Warriors at these odds, but it’s also the smart thing to do. Golden State rolled through the postseason last year, and the team has gotten nothing but better since then. Not only do the Warriors return PG Stephen Curry (25.3 PPG, 6.6 APG, 4.5 RPG, 1.8 SPG; all stats from last season), SF Kevin Durant (25.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 4.8 APG, 1.6 BPG, 1.1 SPG), PF Draymond Green (10.2 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 7.0 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.4 BPG), and SG Klay Thompson (22.3 PPG), but they also added SF Omri Casspi (5.2 PPG) and SG Nick Young (13.2 PPG) in the offseason. Both guys can shoot the three and defend multiple positions, so they will only make the Golden State bench more potent. This team should have no trouble earning the top spot in the Western Conference, and it’s very hard to imagine them losing in the playoffs. Houston Rockets (18-to-1) - The Rockets are coming off of a fantastic season and they added superstar PG Chris Paul (18.1 PPG, 9.2 APG, 5.0 RPG, 2.0 SPG) in the offseason. With Paul and SG James Harden (29.1 PPG, 11.2 APG, 8.1 RPG, 1.5 SPG), the Rockets now have the best backcourt in the NBA. That’s especially important when considering the fact that this league is now dominated by perimeter players. The two of them should thrive together in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s system, but they are not alone either. Houston has a good supporting cast and also has the assets to pull off a trade for another superstar at some point soon. It’s likely going to come down to the Warriors and Rockets in the Western Conference Finals, and the winner of that series would be favored heavily over the winner of the Eastern Conference. Toronto Raptors (65-to-1) - When looking for a pick that might pay out huge, this is the one to make. The Eastern Conference is way more open than the West, and the Raptors have plenty of continuity. They are still led by their All-Star backcourt of PG Kyle Lowry (22.4 PPG, 7.0 APG, 4.8 RPG, 1.5 SPG) and SG DeMar DeRozan (27.3 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.1 SPG), but a full season of PF Serge Ibaka (14.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.6 BPG) and the addition of SG C.J. Miles (10.7 PPG) will have this team playing at a higher level next season. Ibaka will have more of an understanding of where to go on offense, and Miles gives the team some much-needed outside shooting. The Raptors will also get some more improvement from their young guys off the bench. They’re a great value at 65-to-1, as they have a real shot to represent the East in the Finals.
