BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - California safety Avery Sebastian has been taken to the hospital after a hard collision during a scrimmage at Memorial Stadium appeared to leave him immobilized.

Team spokesman Herb Benenson said Monday night that Sebastian was transported by ambulance to Highland General Hospital in Oakland. The school had no immediate update on Sebastian's condition.

Reports out of Cal's scrimmage said Sebastian hit running back Jeffrey Coprich on a run up the middle and immediately went down. Sebastian, listed as the starting strong safety on the preseason depth chart, didn't appear to move for more than 15 minutes.

Sebastian was strapped to a gurney with his head immobilized and taken off in an ambulance. Players huddled before being sent to the locker room.
