CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A chance to make history for Virginia is just another game for No. 2 Oregon when the Ducks and Cavaliers will play for the first time Saturday.
Virginia is coming off a nailbiter, 19-16 victory against BYU in what served as something of a warmup for this week. The Cougars and Ducks both employ a hurry-up offense, but Oregon (1-0) does it much better.
Virginia has never beaten a team ranked as high as No. 2, and is 2-17-1 in its history against teams in the top 5. To have a chance this week, the Cavaliers will need another solid performance from their defense, which was very good against BYU, and more production from an offense that gained just 223 yards.
Cavaliers coach Mike London says challenging games like this are ``what college football is all about, having the opportunities to play on those days that a lot of people say that you can't win.''
