COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M has retired the No. 44 jersey worn by 1957 Heisman Trophy winner John David Crow.
Crow played for coach Paul ``Bear'' Bryant and the coach famously said before the vote that: ``If John David Crow doesn't win the Heisman Trophy, they ought to stop giving it.''
Crow ran for 562 yards, had five interceptions as a safety and returned kicks for the Aggies to gain the honor.
The 78-year-old was in College Station on Saturday as the school retired his jersey at halftime of the game against top-ranked Alabama.
He and last year's winner Johnny Manziel are the only Aggies to have won the award.
