FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The Patriots are back in the AFC championship game because of a dominant running attack and an opportunistic defense.
Tom Brady became the first player to throw for 6,000 yards in the postseason when he had 198 yards passing in New England's 43-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night.
But his main offensive roles were to hand the ball off and adjust play calls at the line of scrimmage.
New England rushed for 234 yards and advanced to next Sunday's game against Denver or San Diego. LeGarrette Blount led the running game with 166 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown. And the Patriots (13-4) intercepted Andrew Luck four times.
Brady also filled in as a holder on two successful extra-point kicks after Ryan Allen left with a shoulder injury in the second quarter.
