ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Bills president Russ Brandon sees no reason why a stalemate in contract talks last year with Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd would prevent the two sides from reaching a long-term deal this offseason.

Brandon said Monday he doesn't think there should be any ''carryover'' from discussions last year. He added the team is taking the approach to ''reset it and start again.''

Byrd played under a $6.9 million franchise tag last season. General manager Doug Whaley hasn't rule out the possibility of applying the tag on Byrd one last time this year.

Byrd earned his third Pro Bowl selection last season despite missing a majority of the offseason because of contract talks. He also missed the first five games because of plantar fasciitis.
