PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst is taking a hands-on approach with quarterbacks Chad Voytik and Trey Anderson.
Chryst added quarterbacks coach to his list of duties during the offseason. Chryst hopes working so closely with Voytik and Anderson will help them become more comfortable in taking a more prominent role in the offense.
Voytik is the favorite to replace Tom Savage, who passed for nearly 3,000 yards in his one year with the Panthers. Voytik played sparingly in 2013 but showed promise while taking over for an injured Savage in the second half of a 30-27 victory over Bowling Green in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
Voytik says Chryst makes sure his quarterbacks learn to think for themselves instead of waiting to be told what to do.
The Panthers wrap up spring drills on Tuesday.
