TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Cardinals signed first-round pick Deone Bucannon to a four-year deal Thursday.
The Cardinals selected the big-hitting strong safety out of Washington State with the 27th overall selection in last month's draft after Arizona traded down from the No. 20 spot, getting New Orleans' first-round pick and a third-round selection.
If Bucannon works out at strong safety, Arizona would field an impressive secondary, once Tyrann Mathieu returns to free safety after recovering from major knee surgery. Patrick Peterson is at one cornerback, with recently signed free agent Antonio Cromartie at the other.
Bucannon is the highest drafted player from Washington State since Seattle took cornerback Marcus Trufant at No. 11 in 2003.
The Cardinals have now signed all seven members of their 2014 draft class.
