WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (7-3)

at MONTREAL ALOUETTES (6-4)

Kickoff: Sunday, 1:00 p.m. EDT
Line: Montreal -8, Total: 53

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will try to bounce back after last week’s 45-23 shellacking to Saskatchewan and will travel to Montreal to play the Alouettes. Montreal is coming off an impressive 43-13 win over Hamilton on Sunday.

Winnipeg has played well on the road this year going 3-1 SU & ATS and is a remarkable 5-0 ATS (4-1 SU) as an underdog in 2011. Over the past two seasons, when the Blue Bombers are an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5, they are 10-1 ATS. The Alouettes have had problems covering after straight up victories, going 4-11 ATS in their past 15 such games. Montreal is 4-1 SU at home, but 3-2 ATS and just 5-4 ATS as a favorite. Both teams will have a lot to play for, considering they are one and two in the East Division, but the Blue Bombers should surprise many and win in Montreal.

The FoxSheets show two more trends siding with Winnipeg.

Play On- Underdogs or pick (WINNIPEG) - after failing to cover the spread in 3 out of their last 4 games, when playing on a Sunday.
(38-12 since 1996.) (76%, +24.8 units. Rating = 3*).

Play Against - Home favorites of 3.5 to 10 points (MONTREAL) - off a win over a division rival. (32-9 over the last 5 seasons.) (78%, +22.1 units. Rating = 3*).

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers need to forget about the terrible loss last week at home against Saskatchewan and think about staying on top of the East Division. Winnipeg’s quarterback Buck Pierce got banged up in last week’s battle. Pierce threw for 287 yards, but tossed five interceptions and didn’t find the end zone. In addition to those five sacks, Pierce was hit many times and was left with bruised ribs that have him day-to-day. If Pierce cannot play, back-up quarterback Alex Brink will start in his place. Brink got some snaps last week and went 8-of-11 for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Legendary Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo had a tremendous game on Sunday, throwing for 421 yards and four touchdowns in the 43-13 butt kicking of the Tiger-Cats. Calvillo’s favorite target is Jamel Richardson who finished with seven catches, 113 yards and a score on Sunday. Montreal has many offensive weapons and will need them all against a tough Winnipeg team. With a win, the Als would be tied for first with Winnipeg in the East Division.
