The slumping Alouettes look to get back on track Friday night, when they face the first-place Edmonton Eskimos. Montreal could use a big win to change its momentum that is currently headed in the wrong direction.

The Alouettes suffered a 25-23 home loss to Winnipeg last week, but have been great coming back after straight up losses, going 17-5 ATS (77.3%). And coming off a loss against a division rival, Montreal is 6-0 over the past three seasons. Despite the 7-4 record, the Eskimos are just 3-2 SU (2-3 ATS) at home and average 21.6 PPG compared to 26.5 PPG on the road. Edmonton has also had its share of trouble in September in the past, where it is a miserable 4-11 ATS in its past 15 September games. Montreal put a hurting on Edmonton on August 11, beating the Eskimos 27-4, and a similar outcome will happen Friday night as a desperate MONTREAL team will scratch and claw to a big road victory.

Montreal has been sliding of late, losing three of four, and has fallen from 5-2 to 6-5. A big problem in the Als’ 25-23 loss last week to Winnipeg was their defense. Montreal allowed 430 yards of offense and let quarterback Buck Pierce throw for 312 yards and two touchdowns. Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo, threw for 258 yards, but his accuracy was surprisingly weak going 22-of-39.

Edmonton’s offense looked terrific in last week’s 38-23 victory over Hamilton. The Eskimos got the running game going early as Jerome Messam ran for a career-best 139 yards on only 15 carries and found the end zone twice. Quarterback Ricky Ray also had a very effective day throwing the ball, completing 25-of-32 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown. Catching 14 of those passes was star wideout, Fred Stamps, who ended with 130 yards receiving.
