The Tour’s fall season chugs along with a stop in northern California. Thus week’s field has a tad more star power than last week’s autumn opener in Vegas. CordeValle is one of the easier stops on the Tour, so expect another week of low scores in a wide-open tournament. Here’s a look at the best bets…
Brendan Steele (40/1): Steele finished T7 at CordeValle a year ago, and he is coming off a solid week at Summerlin, riding a final-round 67 to a T13 finish. It was his second top-15 in three starts. He has a great chance to break through for his first Tour victory this weekend.
Bud Cauley (20/1): Cauley built up some late-summer momentum, with a run of four top-10's in July and August. He was in the hunt at CordeValle last year, finishing third.
Jonas Blixt (30/1): Last week at Summerlin, the tournament appeared to belong to Blixt, who led heading into Sunday before a final-round 70 landed him in third. It was his sixth top-20 in his past nine starts, and there’s no reason he shouldn't be in the hunt again this week.
Ernie Els (15/1): He's the most recognizable name in the field, and Els posted a T4 here a year ago. Normally his recent drought would keep him out of consideration, but he's the class of what is still a weak field.
Josh Teater (30/1): He finished T7 at CordeValle a year ago, and Teater got off to a strong start at Summerlin last week, going 70-65-67 Thursday through Saturday before fading to a T22 finish.
