STORRS, Conn. (AP) -Connecticut freshman linebacker Jarrell Miller has been declared ineligible for the 2007 season by the NCAA, which ruled that he must be treated as a transfer student.

Miller, a highly touted recruit from Highland Springs, Va., had originally committed to North Carolina after graduating from high school in 2006 and enrolled in a summer class there, but withdrew before finishing. He attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia last year.

Miller was expected to compete for a backup role at linebacker this season. After sitting out 2007, he will be eligible to play at UConn for four years, coach Randy Edsall said Monday.
