MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -Virginia running back Cedric Peerman left the Cavaliers' game against Middle Tennessee on Saturday after appearing to injure his right leg on a kickoff.

Peerman, who entered the game as the leading rusher in the Atlantic Coast Conference, returned the kickoff 22 yards in the second quarter and then hobbled off the field. He paced the sidelines on crutches for the remainder of the quarter, and did not come out of the tunnel after halftime. His status for next week's game against Connecticut was not announced.

Peerman rushed five times for 19 yards Saturday. Through the first five games, Peerman had 566 yards rushing, averaging 113.2 yards.
