FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -Doug Nussmeier was hired Wednesday by Fresno State to be the team's fourth offensive coordinator in four seasons.

Nussmeier, a backup NFL quarterback for five seasons, was the St. Louis Rams' quarterbacks coach for the past two years. He also played in the CFL and spent three years on the Michigan State coaching staff before joining the Rams.

He will fill the spot on Fresno State coach Pat Hill's staff previously held by Jim McElwain, who left for the same job at Alabama.

``The draw to me to come to Fresno State was the national reputation of the program and Coach Hill,'' Nussmeier said. ``The theme of 'Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere' is known around the country. Having grown up on the West Coast, I have been familiar with the tradition of the Bulldog program. It's great to be a part of the Bulldog family.''
