JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Defensive end Paul Spicer signed a two-year, $8 million contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, giving him a chance to end his career with the team.

Spicer, who led the Jaguars with 7 1/2 sacks last season, skipped Jacksonville's first eight voluntary workouts last month in hopes of getting a new deal.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said both sides made some concessions to get it worked out.

``Paul never really wanted to go anywhere,'' Rosenhaus said. ``This affords him the opportunity to finish his career as a Jaguar, which is very important.''

Spicer was in the final year of a contract that would have paid him about $2.5 million this season.

Although he'd played 46 games the past three years, recording 165 tackles and 18 sacks and emerging as one of the defense's most dependable starters, Spicer seemingly had little leverage because he will turn 33 this summer. The Jaguars used their top two draft picks on defensive ends Derrick Harvey (first round) and Quentin Groves (second).

But Spicer arrived at organized team activities in good shape and immediately accepted a tutoring role to Harvey and Groves - proving he could be an asset to a team that believes it has closed the gap on AFC powers New England and Indianapolis and is capable of making a run at the Super Bowl this season.
