Canada Day was Tuesday and all eight teams will be in action for the American holiday weekend. The opening week of action got off to a crazy start with two road and one home underdog winning outright. Will the madness continue, take a look at betting CFL football in week 2.

Thursday July 3

Hamilton at Toronto

Toronto served notice; they are still a viable ball club in the East, winning at Winnipeg 23-16 as 2.5-point underdogs. Head coach Rich Stubler wasn’t thrilled with QB Kerry Joseph’s play and inserted back-up Michael Bishop, who was less impressive. Joseph starts and Bishop will see action for Argos, who is 9.5-point favorites at Bookmaker.com.

The reportedly improved Hamilton roster did not manifest itself against Montreal, as QB Casey Printers was left to fend for himself. The Ticats were sloppy in all fazes of the game and are 20-35 ATS after a game with a turnover margin of -2 or worse. Bettors have benefited greatly from Toronto being 9-2 ATS as a favorite and should extend streak.

Calgary at Edmonton

Edmonton moved the ball, but was no match as road underdog at Grey Cup champs Saskatchewan. Veteran signal caller Ricky Ray threw the ball effectively, yet could not close the deal, as the Eskimos scored just 13 points. Edmonton has really struggled in the front end of the schedule with 4-13 ATS record the last few seasons.

Calgary’s defence (Canadien readers special) was tremendous in holding down the high-power British Columbia offence. The Stampeders held the Lions to only 18 points and out-gained them 470-320. Henry Burris can be the best quarterback in the CFL, his conundrum is consistency. When Burris plays like last week, it’s easy to back the Stampeders who are 13-2 ATS when they score 28 or more points in a game. Calgary is a two-point road favorite and is 5-2 and 6-1 ATS versus Edmonton.

Friday, July 4

Winnipeg at Montreal

Montreal looked very good on both sides of the ball last week in their
33-10 win over Hamilton. Montreal's offense executed with a crispness not often seen by them in the opening games of the year. Credit former NFL and rookie head coach Marc Trestman for excellent preparation. The defense contained the Ticats and will face a sterner test in home opener from Winnipeg.

The Blue Bombers Kevin Glenn tossed three picks leading his team down the losing path. Winnipeg will need to establish RB Charles Roberts more effectively if they want to earn first win of the season. With this CFL contest a Pick, the Bombers are 33-18 ATS in games where the line is +3 to -3. Montreal is just 6-18 ATS after a dominating performance – 34 or minutes of possession and 24 or more first downs- Winnipeg will have opportunity to win after letting last week slip away.

Saskatchewan at British Columbia

Saskatchewan has British Columbia in uncomfortable spot. They beat them both times at there place, including in the West Finals on the way to third Grey Cup championship and have jumped ahead of the Lions to start 2008 campaign. Marcus Crandell was cool and collected in new starters’ role for the Rough Riders. He made a couple of miscues, but for the most part kept new coach Kevin Miller pleased. Saskatchewan is 29-12 ATS after gaining 7.6 or more yards a play in their previous game.

British Columbia’s play was really disappointing and the run defense was flat out pathetic in surrendering 197 yards to Calgary. The Lions will have to tighten this area up swiftly and should plenty of motivation seeing how last season ended. B.C. is a six-point home favorite, though has not been excellent in this role with 34-47 ATS record. One other note the Lions, they are miserable 17-34 against the spread off a road loss.
