SAN FERNANDO (AP) -The son of the head basketball coach at Cal State-Northridge has been sentenced to probation and community service after pleading no contest to charges of stealing from the Best Buy store where he worked.

Jeffrey Braswell, the son of coach Bobby Braswell, pleaded no contest Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court to five felony counts. He was sentenced to three years' probation and ordered to complete 300 hours of work service.

Prosecutors say Jeffrey Braswell used a fellow employee's password to log into a cash register at a Best Buy store, then allowed his friends to check out merchandise without paying.

Phannuel Gbewonyo and Northridge basketball player Deon Tresvant also have been charged in the case.
