Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown will miss the entire 2012 season with a knee injury.

Terrapins coach Randy Edsall announced Wednesday that Brown tore his ACL in a non-contact drill Tuesday night.

It's a devastating injury for Maryland because Brown, a redshirt junior, is the only quarterback on the team with playing experience. Backups Perry Hillis and Caleb Rowe are true freshmen.

Brown took over as a starter last year for Danny O'Brien, who transferred after the 2011 season. Brown led the Terps with five rushing touchdowns and ran for 647 yards.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback missed 10 games during the 2010 season with a shoulder injury. Brown was to be a key player in Maryland's attempt to bounce back from a 2-10 record in Edsall's first year.
