Maryland must overcome loss of QB Brown to succeed

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - If Maryland is to bounce back from a 2-10 season, the Terrapins must overcome the devastating loss of junior quarterback C.J. Brown.

The good news for the Maryland is that coach Randy Edsall and his players have adjusted to each other after a rocky start. But that might not be enough to offset Brown's season-ending knee injury, which occurred in practice earlier this week.

One of two true freshmen - either Perry Hills or Caleb Rowe - will start in Brown's place in the season opener on Sept. 1 against William & Mary.

Edsall has hired new coordinators for the offense and defense. Mike Locksley is working with a young offense and Brian Stewart has installed a 3-4 alignment to take advantage of an experienced front seven.
