WHAT'S AT STAKE Clemson can continue to show its offense is more than All-American receiver Sammy Watkins, who'll sit out the last of his two-game suspension for an offseason drug arrest. The Tigers played without Watkins last week in a 26-19 victory over Auburn. Ball State will try to snap Clemson's undefeated status against the Mid-American Conference. The Tigers are 3-0 against the MAC. KEY MATCHUP Clemson QB Tajh Boyd against Ball State secondary. Boyd showed off his running skills against Auburn last week, but was still 24 of 34 for 208 yards passing. Even without Watkins lining up for Clemson, the Cardinals' defensive backs will be tested to hold down Boyd's production. WR DeAndre Hopkins set a school record with 13 catches last week. Ball State held Eastern Michigan to under 50 percent passing and 186 yards through the air, although it gave up three TD passes. PLAYERS TO WATCH Ball State: RB Jahwan Edwards rushed for a career-high 200 yards and tied his career best with three touchdowns in the opening-game victory over Eastern Michigan. Edwards was honored as the MAC offensive player of the week. Clemson: RB Andre Ellington ran for a career high 228 yards on 25 carries against Auburn. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference offensive back of the week. FACTS & FIGURES Clemson and Ball State have played each other every 10 years beginning in 1992. In that first meeting, Clemson RB Ronald Williams gained 58 yards and had a touchdown in the Tigers' 24-10 victory. Williams' son, DeShawn, is the Tigers' current starting defensive tackle. ... Ball State had a school-record 36 first downs in its opening-week win over Eastern Michigan ... Ball State hasn't beaten a Top 25 team since 2001 when it defeated No. 25 Toledo. It fell to No. 2 Oklahoma last October, 62-6, in its previous game against a ranked opponent. ... Get ready for a lot of plays on offense: Clemson snapped the ball 92 times against Auburn.
