WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) - The Pac-12 Conference has suspended Washington State safety Deone Bucannon for a half game for a hit to the head of an Eastern Washington player this past Saturday.

Bucannon, a junior, will miss the first half of the Cougars' game at UNLV on Friday night.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott announced the suspension on Tuesday. He said that the action came after the league's weekly review of all ``targeting and unnecessary roughness hits.''

Bucannon's hit came late in the fourth quarter of Washington State's 24-10 victory over Eastern Washington. After an incomplete pass, Bucannon hit receiver Greg Herd, who left the game with a concussion.
