STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - The white banner fluttered in a breeze before being removed from the east facade of Beaver Stadium to reveal ``2012'' in bold numerals next to the years marking unbeaten or championship seasons.

The 2012 campaign will be remembered in Happy Valley for a long time to come for reasons beyond wins and losses.

Penn State finished a season that began with NCAA sanctions with an 8-4 record after Saturday's 24-21 overtime victory over Wisconsin.

Coach Bill O'Brien heaps credit on his senior class, including linebacker Michael Mauti and quarterback Matt McGloin, for guiding the team on and off the field.

Acting athletic director Dave Joyner called O'Brien earlier in the week about adding 2012 on the stadium's ``ring of honor.'' It was unveiled in a ceremony before the Wisconsin game.
