ST. LOUIS (AP) - Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings has topped 200 yards rushing and beat his previous single-season best on a 52-yard gain in the fourth quarter against the St. Louis Rams.

Peterson had a season-high 212 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown late in the game.

For the season, he has 1,812 yards rushing, by far the best in the NFL, beating his previous best of 1,760 yards in 2007.

With two games to go, Peterson has a chance at the NFL single-season record of 2,105 yards by Eric Dickerson of the Los Angeles Rams in 1984.

Peterson has four career 200-yard games, including an NFL record of 296 yards against San Diego in 2007.
