CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A person familiar with the situation says the Carolina Panthers interviewed quarterbacks coach Mike Shula for their vacant offensive coordinator position on Wednesday.

The person spoke to The Associated Press Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team has not released its list of candidates.

The Panthers are looking to replace Rob Chudzinski, who left to become the head coach of the Cleveland Browns last week.

Former Browns coach Pat Shurmur and current Cincinnati Bengals assistant Hue Jackson have also interviewed for the job.

Shula spent four seasons as offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996-99 but things didn't go well there. The Bucs finished 27th in the league in total offense, 29th in points scored and last in the league in passing offense over that four-year span.
