SAVANNAH STATE TIGERS (5-4)

at OHIO STATE BUCKEYES (6-1)

Tip-off: Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. ET
Line: Ohio State -22.5, Total: 118.5

No. 7 Ohio State gets another tune-up for the upcoming Big Ten season when it hosts Savannah State on Wednesday night.

The Buckeyes have played four home games so far, all against overmatched opponents and all wins of 22 points or more. Savannah State has not played a lined game yet this season, but a month ago it hung tough with a solid mid-major in Central Florida (a three-point loss) and lost at Florida by 18, but they held the Gators to 58 points in that game. The Tigers are one of the nation’s slowest-paced teams, averaging 54.1 PPG and allowing 53.0 PPG.

Can the Ohio State cover the huge spread? For the answer, connect to College Basketball Best Bets for all the Expert picks throughout the entire 2012-13 season. The StatFox experts are rolling so far this week with a collective 5-1 ATS mark over two days, boosting them to a collective 52% ATS (113-106-6) in college basketball Best Bets for the season, led by StatFox Gary, who is 11-6 ATS (65%) since Nov. 26 and 60% ATS (24-16) for the season. StatFox Brian is 10-6 ATS (63%) since Nov. 30 and sits at 51% ATS (26-25-2) for the season. StatFox Dave is also 51% ATS (41-39-2), helped out by a 3-0 ATS mark since Sunday.

Ohio State has swarmed opponents on the defensive end. Led by PG Aaron Craft, the nation’s best perimeter defender, the team is allowing just 57.1 PPG and 36.2% FG. Offensively, PF Deshaun Thomas (20.6 PPG, 6.1 RPG) has led the way. Craft (11.0 PPG, 4.1 APG) has disappeared as a scorer at times, but he’s a big reason the Buckeyes are turning it over just 9.3 times per game, third-fewest in the nation. Since their loss at Duke in the ACC/Big Ten challenge two weeks ago, they’ve blown out Northern Kentucky (by 27) and Long Beach State (by 34) at home. Sophomore PF LaQuinton Ross (10.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG) has emerged as an offensive threat off the bench, averaging 19.0 PPG and 8.5 RPG in the two lopsided wins.

Savannah State just lost their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener, a 55-45 defeat to Norfolk State at home. They’re holding opponents to 37.0% FG, but are shooting just 40.1% FG and 27.6% 3-pt FG themselves. Undersized PF Rashad Hassan (13.2 PPG on 58.1% FG, 5.1 RPG) is their only athlete who can keep up with a Big Ten opponent, but at 6-foot-7 and 215 pounds, he’ll have his hands full against the Buckeyes’ relatively massive front line.
