SAN ANTONIO SPURS (3-3)

at GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (5-1)

Tip-off: Tuesday, 10:35 p.m. ET
Line: Golden State -6.5, Total: 201

Coming off their first loss of the season, the Warriors look to get back on track with a showdown with the defending champion Spurs on Tuesday night.

The Spurs had a rough first five games of the season as they took SU losses to Phoenix, Houston and New Orleans, but were able to rebound nicely on Monday night with a come-from-behind victory over the Clippers on the road. They won 89-85 as two-point underdogs in the first of four straight games away from home, while outscoring them 25-15 over the final quarter. The ATS victory was their first of the season despite shooting a meager 33-for-83 (39.8%) in the contest while they committed just eight turnovers and saw the game go Under the total for the fifth time in their six games. Golden State looks to be one of the teams to beat in the Western Conference as it has gone 5-1 (both SU and ATS) over the first part of this season, but was unable to get things going against the Suns on Sunday. The Warriors absorbed their first loss of the year when they traveled to Phoenix and were handled easily by a score of 107-95 as 2.5-point underdogs. Despite the loss, they had one of the best shooting nights from behind the arc (11-for-24) but turned the ball over 26 times and committed 26 fouls. Last season these teams met four times with San Antonio coming away victorious in each game SU (3-1 ATS) and defeating Golden State by an average of 8.5 PPG. In three of the four meetings, the Warriors shot below 43% from the floor and committed an average of 18.5 turnovers per game. Bettors should note that the Spurs are 32-20 ATS (62%) after two straight games giving up 10 or less offensive rebounds in the past three seasons and 21-9 ATS (70%) after a double-digit loss in the same timeframe. In injury news, SG Marco Belinelli (groin) is listed as questionable while C Tiago Splitter (calf) is out for San Antonio. SG Klay Thompson (hand) is probable to play, but PF David Lee (hamstring) remains out for the host Warriors.

StatFox Zach posted a 54% ATS mark (65-56-4) in NBA Best Bets last season, while StatFox Forecaster had a 53.4% ATS (207-181-12) in featured games last season. StatFox Scott is off to a great start to the 2014-15 campaign at 60% ATS (6-4), while StatFox Brian is 67% ATS (4-2) on NBA Best Bets in November.

San Antonio has not been very efficient on offense as the team is scoring a mere 92.2 PPG (4th-worst in NBA) at a 42.5% clip (also 4th-worst in league) and rank in the NBA's bottom-10 with 20.0 APG. The Spurs defense has looked solid though, allowing opponents to score 94.8 PPG (6th in league) while holding them to 44.7% shooting. PF Tim Duncan (15.2 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 2.0 BPG) has a double-double in four of his five games, but is shooting an abnormally low 44% from the field in the early going. Last season he struggled in his two starts against the Warriors, going for 12.0 PPG (50% FG), 8.5 RPG and 1.0 BPG. PG Tony Parker (17.7 PPG, 4.3 APG) is coming off of a very poor shooting performance (3-for-13 FG) in the win over the Clippers as he scored 13 points while dishing out five assists. He hopes to recover quickly against a Golden State team which he has averaged 18.9 PPG (51% FG) and 6.8 APG against over 43 career starts. SF Kawhi Leonard (12.8 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 1.8 SPG) has been phenomenal in the past two games after a slow start while averaging 20.0 PPG, 12.0 RPG, 2.0 SPG and 1.0 BPG. He has not performed particularly well versus the Warriors in his career, tallying 9.9 PPG (49% FG) with 5.8 RPG and 1.2 SPG in the nine meetings.

The Warriors have made it known to the world that they expect to be one of the top offenses in the NBA, and so far they have averaged 105.2 PPG (3rd in league) on an NBA-best 49% FG, including 40% threes (4th in league). What’s more impressive is their defensive play, as they are allowing just 94.8 PPG (6th in NBA) while keeping their opponents' shooting percentage to an NBA-low 40.4%. PG Stephen Curry (27.7 PPG, 7.2 APG, 6.2 RPG, 3.5 SPG, 41% threes) has scored more than 20 points in each game this season while having nine steals in his past two contests, but also had 10 turnovers in Sunday's loss. Curry has started against the Spurs 13 times in his career where he's put up 17.8 PPG (42% threes) and dished out 5.8 APG. SG Klay Thompson (23.8 PPG, 3.2 APG, 41% threes) had a career-high 41 points against the Lakers to open this month, but has since seen his point production decline in each of the past three games while missing the last contest with a hand injury. He has scored 15.8 PPG (42% FG) in his 11 meetings (10 starts) with San Antonio despite hitting just 18-of-55 (33%) shots from behind the arc. C Andrew Bogut (6.5 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 2.2 BPG) has been dominant on the boards with four double-digit rebounding performances, and the former first overall pick has averaged a double-double (12.0 PPG, 11.9 RPG) with 1.9 BPG in 16 career starts against the Spurs.
