SAN ANTONIO SPURS (34-20)

at GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (42-9)

Tip-off: Friday, 10:35 p.m. ET
Line: Golden State -6.5, Total: 207.0

The Warriors go for their fourth straight victory when they host the Spurs on Friday.

San Antonio faced the Clippers in Los Angeles on Thursday and came away with 119-115 loss as a 2.5-point road favorite. The Spurs have still played well over the past few weeks though, winning 11 of their past 15 games SU. They are, however, just 2-7-1 ATS in their past 10 games. The Warriors, meanwhile, won three straight games heading into the break. Their most recent victory was a 94-91 win as 9-point favorites in Minnesota. Defensively, they have been extremely sharp during their winning streak. Over the past three games, Golden State is allowing just 89.0 PPG and that is a great sign for the team despite them losing four straight games ATS. The Spurs and Warriors last met on Nov. 11, 2014, when San Antonio won 113-100 as a 7.5-point road favorite. San Antonio has dominated this head-to-head series winning seven straight games SU and covering in the past four contests as well. The Spurs have also won-and-covered in four straight trips to Oracle Arena. Over the past three seasons, San Antonio is 49-27 ATS after scoring 110 points or more in their previous game. The Spurs are also 57-35 ATS in road games after playing two consecutive games as a favorite over the past three seasons. The Warriors, meanwhile, are 9-1 ATS when playing four or less games in 10 days this season. They are also 12-1 ATS after two straight games where they are called for 18 or less fouls over the past three seasons. Both teams are healthy for this game, but the Spurs could opt to rest their starters because this is the second game of a back-to-back for them.

The Spurs are coming off of a rough loss against the Clippers in Los Angeles on Thursday and now will look to continue their success against an elite Warriors team. PF Tim Duncan (14.8 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 1.9 BPG) played very well against the Clippers, finishing with 30 points (12-for-14 FG, 5-for-5 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists and a block in 33 minutes. Earlier in the year, Duncan went for 12 points, 13 rebounds and three assists against the Warriors in 35 minutes of action. He’ll need to be on his game on both ends of the floor in order to help his team earn a victory in Golden State. PG Tony Parker (14.7 PPG, 5.0 APG) had one of his best games of the year against Los Angeles on Thursday. Parker played 35 minutes and finished with 21 points, 13 assists, three rebounds and two steals. He’s now averaging 17.6 PPG and 6.4 APG over the past five games and will need to keep up his strong play against PG Steph Curry (23.6 PPG, 7.9 APG, 4.7 RPG, 2.2 SPG). He lit up the Warriors in his last meeting with the team, finishing with 28 points and seven assists and he should be able to find success in this one as well. SF Kawhi Leonard (15.1 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 2.6 APG, 2.1 SPG) is going to need to break out of his recent slump if the team is going to win this game in Golden State. Leonard is averaging just 6.0 PPG over the past two contests and his shooting has been horrendous (3-for-23 FG). Defensively he is always reliable, but the Spurs can’t keep winning if he is not doing his part on the offensive end. SG Manu Ginobili (12.0 PPG, 4.8 APG, 3.0 RPG, 1.0 SPG) was excellent the last time he faced Golden State. He had 17 points, five assists and two steals in 26 minutes that game and will need to provide the same type of offense in this one.

The Warriors have won three straight games, but they have not been as good as they can be against some mediocre competition. Facing the Spurs will be a difficult task for the team and they will need to play very well to break their losing streak against San Antonio. If the Warriors are going to win this game, PG Steph Curry will need to play very well in his matchup with Tony Parker. Curry had just 16 points, six rebounds and five assists in 36 minutes the last time these teams played. He is capable of playing a lot better than that and will need to get things going this time around. SG Klay Thompson (22.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.2 SPG) is the one who picked up the slack with Curry struggling in that game. Thompson had 29 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal in 40 minutes of action against the Spurs in their last meeting. He has a major mismatch against all of the Spurs’ shooting guards and he’ll need to be featured heavily in this game. PF Draymond Green (11.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 3.6 APG, 1.6 SPG, 1.4 BPG) is likely going to face the tough task of guarding Tim Duncan in this contest. Green is giving up a lot of height when he guards the Spurs’ superstar, but he has the strength to at least take him away from the basket a little bit. Offensively, he’ll need to knock down some open shots from the outside in order to stretch the Spurs’ defense. C Andrew Bogut (6.6 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.8 BPG) is this team’s best rim protector. He could also see a lot of time guarding Tim Duncan if Green finds himself struggling to do so. Bogut had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes against the Timberwolves before the break. He has been an excellent distributor from the high-post this season and should really make an impact in this one.
