(Stats Perform) - Grambling State and Tennessee State will meet for the first time in 19 years when they square off in the 2021 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic on Sept. 5 in Canton, Ohio. The third annual matchup, announced Thursday, will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Grambling State has won the last five meetings and holds a 22-18-1 all-time lead over Tennessee State, winning 49-14 in the most recent matchup in 2002. Both teams had their 2020 season postponed to the upcoming spring semester due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic forced the cancelation of a Central State versus Howard matchup in the BCFHOF Classic. The inaugural classic in 2019 saw Alabama A&M beat Morehouse 35-30. Grambling State, coached by Broderick Fobbs, plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while Tennessee State, under Rod Reed, is an Ohio Valley Conference member.
