MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Former walk-on Jared Abbrederis has set a new standard with his exemplary college career for No. 19 Wisconsin.
The Badgers historically churn out quality walk-ons. This month, Abbrederis won the Burlsworth Trophy, a relatively new college football award given to the top player who started as a walk-on.
Abbrederis came into 2013 as the team's leading returning receiver. But with a new coaching staff in place, he promised offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig that he would earn every second of playing time.
Abbrederis enters his final collegiate game with 3,110 yards receiving, about 350 behind the school's career mark held by Lee Evans. The Badgers (9-3) are in Florida to prepare for the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1 against No. 8 South Carolina.
